Hi guys, as the tile states im new to the game but have instantly fallen in love with it. My friend gave me a decent myr deck, but im looking for my own deck to build. I understand a lot of cards that hold a good place in a deck are the older ones and many from Worldwake(i figured out no longer printed at card shop ) I hope this is the place to post. If not my apologees. So my main question is, does anyone know of a good set to build from that is still widely available. I am looking to make a decent Blue Deck, as we do team battles and im more of a support guy. Thanks for your help everyone!

Do you have any Format Restrictions? What is your budget for improvements?

Does this mean that you are looking to only use cards from more recent sets than WorldWake?
So my main question is, does anyone know of a good set to build from that is still widely available.
Almost all MTG sets are widely available on the internet.

I sold my real cards collection years ago, I'm only online now, so I haven't entered a card shop in 10+ years but back then nearly all cards shops I went had empty and never used pizza box full of commons/ uncommons from nearly all sets and they were selling most for 10cents or so. They also had such box for cheap rares & uncommons while the high value were in the stand.
So maybe if your local shop has that kind of stuff you could find old cards, maybe not all, you could use.
If your local shop doesn't have such, ask some of their clients and other players.
My decks, mostly casuals, but some I use online with some small changes:

Basically, I'm looking for sets around Zendikar+ but my card shop also sells some from Kamigawa. I don't really have restrictions, but the card guy doesn't sell many good ones for 10 cents. Although i can see waht he has. Thanks for the help so far. By the way, as I'm only a Jr. in highschool im limited to allowance so about $10 a week. Once again, thanks guys!

I know this is a little lazy on my part, but here is a (mostly) Standard deck which I've been tinkering with, which can be made on a tight budget:

Thanks man, it so happens that i Have four of the Emtomber Exarchs! A black blue seems like decent protection from spells while dishing out occasional damage even at the cost of your life sometimes?

Also, as a whole, life is a resource. By which I mean, you win if you are on 1,000,000 life and your opponent on 0, but you also win if you are on 1 life and your opponent on 0 life. Never be afraid to lose life - only the last point matters.
Ooh! Never thought of it that way! *mostly plays blue/white* But if that is true, the element of surprise is best, is it not? If a game comes that close, an instant could turn the tables! You use blue, but have no real counters. A burn deck could end this fast despite its aggression. Mana Leak would cost a dollar for 4 I believe. Just an opinion, though!

Okay, this is somewhat relevant to this thread: Spoiler:

That was just an example, being on 1 life isn't really a great place to be!
You use blue, but have no real counters.
The problem with Counters in Aggressive decks is: 1) To run Counters (ideally multiples) you have to sacrifice synergy. I could replace both the "Evoke" creatures with CounterSpells, but both ShriekMaw and AetherSnipe are synergistic here - they offer "control", an easy way to get Creatures into my Graveyard and bodies (if I need them). 2) That you never want to stop playing things. By which I mean: on my T2 I want to play BloodThrone Vampire , or Screeching Skaab , I don't want to be holding back my mana for counters. 3) If you are going to run Counters you should run multiple playsets. By which I mean: you have very little chance of seeing 1 of your 4 Mana Leak 's when you need them. Alternatively, if you are running a playset of Mana Leak , Rune Snag and CounterSpell then you will be more likely to have them when you need them. A burn deck could end this fast despite its aggression
Happily, Armored Skaab , Stitched Drake and MakeShift Mauler are all beyond the range of common burn.
But yeah, anything quick enough (which can deal with Stitched Drake and MakeShift Mauler ) is going to give me serious trouble.

Would I be better off buying a stated deck from AVC and then building it with booster packs?
