which are you referring to: split cards, flip cards or double-faced cards?

Split and Flip cards have a normal Magic back. Double-faced cards do not have a Magic back.

Split cards are cast as one side or the other, your choice of which.

Flip cards are cast as the unflipped side (the side that has the mana cost) and become flipped (the side without the mana cost).

DFC's are cast by the day side (the face with the sun logo in the top left) and become transformed to the night side (the face with the moon logo in the top left).

Also note that DFC's must either be sleeved or replaced with Magic checklist cards when not on the battlefield.

It's not quite clear what type of cards you're referring to. Do you mean:

Split cards?

Flip cards?

Or double-faced cards?

When you cast a split card, you pick one half of it and cast just that half. For example,  if you have this card in your hand:

You can either pay to deal 2 damage divided among one or two targets, or you can pay to tap a permanent and draw a card. You can't do both.

Only the half you chose to play has any effect.
The other half is considered to be «nonexistant».

Some other cards may, on occasion, care about both halves simultaneously.

«Dystocracy : A system of government in which corrupt leadership colludes with dishonest bankers and greedy elites in order to ensure that productive members of society –people who actually do useful work- bear the greatest share of taxes while gaining the least benefit possible.»

Sounds familiar?

What's the CMC of a split card?  Say, in conjunction with Mindshrieker .

It will return the CMC X and Y where X is the CMC of one half and Y is the CMC of the other
for Mindshrieker it will have an additive effect of X+Y
for a comparison like on Isochron Scepter, it will see X and Y and if either X or Y is 2 or less and one or both sides are an instant, then it can exile it
