Phyrexian Rager does not replace sign in blood. You're trading a card for a body. Not always bad... but consider the body. Is a 2/2 that doesn't fly going to get you anywhere in this meta or the one you think might be coming?

I wasnt meaning like actually replace Sign in blood, i meant just a temporary switch until i can find something more effcient like harrowing journey, or I will run just harrowing journ ey as my card draw, which because of its 5 cost it might or might not coause complications on how smoothly the deck runs.

Harrowing Journey: Really? You spend your turn five doing nothing but giving your opponent a quicker clock? In a field where the best deck is a tempo deck? This card is very bad in an aggro heavy format, which is what we seem to have (again). This is not a good idea at all, you'd be better off with some kind of Ichor Wellspring + phyrexia's Core plan, sicne you gain incrimental life, and can draw at instant speed for the second half for one total mana less than Think twice. Also, it means you're not tapping out on the "untap, make sword and equip" turn.

Although the lack of artifact hate in this deck means that I don't think it can be viable in a world of stalkers and geists with swords.

I don't really think Mono-black is viable in standard right now. Mirran Crusader and Sword of Feast and Famine are very real cards. Yeah, there are ways around them and the other hexproof pains in the rump ( Thrun, the Last Troll Dungrove Elder Geist of Saint Traft ), but they typically involve you having to burn a number of cards to deal with all the creatures around the Crusader and then causing him to get sacrificed or Black Sun's Zenithing for enough. Black has no artifact removal and swords and pikes are the hotness in standard right now. I just don't see mono-black working, as much as I'd like it to. Especially with even more black hosers coming out. Sigarda, Host of Herons

Cyrus,

It's funny you said those things. I had often considered wellsprings the equivalent of think twice. And I had been considering a metal black deck where we could give forgemaster a mild resurgence. With wellsprings to ensure an endless supply of land drops Griselbrand being hardcasted becomes a high likelihood.

Has anyone thought of using Heartless Summoning as a way to push large threats faster?

I use what I would call a MBC deck, splashing blue for Havengul Lich and Forbidden Alchemy .
I use Geth's Verdict as a wya to deal with Hexproof, as well as Massacre Wurm and Black Sun's Zenith then the usual discard/spot removal suite, as well as perilous Myr for recursion with Lich and Summoning.
I would have killed, literally ended someones life, to NOT have Arrogant Bloodlord riding a giant ant...

but where DID the other fork come from?

Lord_Zed:
I was at my friends house when this happened. He's married and his wife was an excellent baker. She had baked a homemade apple pie the night before.

I was hungry, and my friend convinced me to try those low carb monster drinks. Before this day, I had never triend energy drinks before.

Boy was I in for a treat.

When I tried that first monster, I really enjoyed the flavor, but the taste that it left in my mouth wasn't so good. What was my solution? Drink another!

before I could finish drinking that 2nd monster, I felt it already kicking in(these drinks were not very far apart, we're talking minutes here) my friend decided that it was a good idea to whip out that fresh pie his wife made the night before. I didn't know what to do, since I felt incredibly invigorated, and at the same time, freaked out by the rush I was feeling, but I was also hungry, and my friend have me an entire plate with a fork and said "help yourself." He extended his saucer to me, and I cut him a piece of the pie and handed it to him, then I looked at the pie, noticed that the pie was in an aluminum holder, and dumped the entire pie onto my plate and started eating it with 2 forks. I don't know where I found that other fork, it probably came from my friend. Anyhow, his wife wasn't happy, and I was already in magical christmas land. 2 days later, I was in my friends bed and I slept for 14 hours.

His wife outlawed my from having any of her baked goods for a while(which sucked because I could just show up at there house, steal some sweets, and leave) and said I couldn't have any energy drinks at her house, unless under close watch.

My friend, on the other hand, had to take me out to a steak dinner, because apparently I won a bet where I climbed a tree and didn't die.

The great land debate:

That's Heartless Havengvul, not quite the same thing.

I think Black just needs more quality 2 for 1's.  Sure, if you combine Altar's Reap with Black Cat or Solemn Simulacrum you're doing ok.  But that's a lot of work just to draw 2 cards.

What does everyone think of Bitterheart Witch if Wolf Run gets big?  I know it's expensive, but the ability to kill a Prime Titan and tutor up a Curse of Death's Hold seems nice.  I was thinking maybe in some kind of G/B Rock shell, but I guess it could work in Mono-Black.  Not sure Rock could beat Delver though.

Even then, Altar's Reap and Black Cat blow by themselves.

Agreed.  And I guess there's no law saying you have to attack with your Primeval Titan into a Bitterheart Witch.  The next few months should be interesting...

Out of nostalgia for when I first started playing Standard and tried to make monoblack work for a while, I've whipped together the following list:
Spoiler: Show
I don't know if I plan on playing this or not, but what do you guys think? I feel like it's missing something (maybe more GY hate). Oh, it's also missing a SB :p but I'll deal with that if I decide I actually want to take this to FNM.
