The most noteworthy thing about the guildless isn't a lack of color, but rather a lack of multiple colors.

True, but the gateless will want to be in a deck of their own and a 5 colored deck incourages people to play ALL guilds instead of none. Unless they have some type of "monocolor matters" theme throughout all colors capable of carrying it as a deck, colorless/color hybrids are really the only way to go. If I was designing them, I'd also want a way to differentiate them from simple guildless cards. Not to mention that Wizards likes to have a returning mechanic in each block and we still haven't seen one for RtR and we have confirmation that none of the guild keywords will be old mechanics.

Not related to RtR or Gatecrash, but will we get to see any info about Ugin anytime soon? Or will he end up being an elusive lore-only figure?

One cool thing about the guildpact I've noticed is, the Gruul and the Dimir are on exact opposite sides of the color pie (if you use white as its apex, like on the logo), but they both want the same thing. (The Gruul are simply more open about it. Granted, "more open than the Vampire Illuminati" is almost tautological, but still...)
Any other odd mirrors like that you've noticed?

What does that have to do with the Guildless?
Unfortunately that connection is coincental and does not apply to the current incarnation of the Dimir. Besides that Ravnica doesn't do the enemy color/ally color thing because it doesn't abide by typical color pie rules. Ravnica doesn't have 5 colors, it has 10, and they all hate each other very much.

Not really. The Gruul want to destroy the city, while the Dimir want to dominate it.
And so people say to me, "How do I know if a word is real?" You know, anyone who's read a children's book knows that love makes things real. If you love a word, use it! That makes it real. Being in the dictionary is an artificial distinction; it doesn't make the word any more real than any other word. If you love a word, it becomes real. --Erin McKean, Redefining the Dictionary

I think bay was referring to in Ravnica classic that both guilds wanted to destroy the Guildpact.

"all hate each other?" The old Azorious and Boros worked together; they weren't friendly, but they didn't hate each other. The simic and Izzet don't really hate each other. According to today's article, the Boros and Izzet are working together. Rakdos and Gruul don't care want the other wants to do.

Occassionally when catering, I've been put the task of arranging Fruit and Cheese or Grilled Vegetable platters. More than once a high class buffet has started with the mark of Phyrexia upon it. Since i've got a good eye for color so it looks great to people who don't get the "joke" (it's a niceley divided circle after all: the outline gives you 4-6 "regions" to work with), this has actually got me put on platter design more often, resulting in Phyrexia's presence at more private and industry events.

Yeah, and also, the Gruul are basically guildless, and House Dimir doesn't exist, silly.

Kinda sorta. The Gruul are both disenfranchised and anti-civilization. They hate the other guilds and the city they live in. They want to tear the city down, whereas most of the populace would probably prefer to keep the benefits of their developed lifestyle without the Guilds lording it up over their heads.
