A/N: Man, between a busy weekend and then Gleemax refusing to let me log in, it looks like I missed some stuff!

There was no doubt that Avacyn had returned. Lukas had disappeared into the demon-held alleyways to lose the cathars who pursued him, but by the time he had returned to the battle, new enchantments darkening his rapier, he found that the demonic forces were not under attack only by the cathars, but by the bulk of the angelic forces themselves. The first few paladins fell to his soul-wrenching enchantments before Lukas recognized the overwhelming forces they stood against. He would see them all destroyed for Gabrielle’s betrayal… but some part of him still retained his instinct to life.

A summoning spell recalled the monsters of Zendikar, bringing forth a final stand for the demonic forces in these streets, even as the holy forces of Avacyn overwhelmed the maddened cultists and their desperate masters. A shaft of holy light speared through Lukas’s summoning, angelic power dismantling the demon even as it tangled with aerial warriors. But it had done its job—for the cultists and devils were retreating, the ground burning from angelic fervor as they fled the hosts of Avacyn.

Some new demon, a bulky, horn-covered creature whose foul stench supplemented its oddly human attire, had summoned what minions it could claim to this new retreat, its cultists, devils, and demonic underlings tearing back at the surrounding angelic regions. The battle surrounding them was brutal and vicious, with demonfire trading with the cleansing beams of Avacyn’s hosts to lay waste to human and home. A cult pushed back at the overwhelming forces, cutting them down before being obliterated by the angels themselves. Here, the holy warriors would have them surrounded and slain like cornered vermin. But Lukas would never submit to angels.

The streets swarmed with cathars and cultists, humans grappling in a bloody melee while devil fire exploded against aerial angelic shields. The demonic forces were falling around him under such a brilliant concerted effort, but he was strong and his hatred fueled an endless strength in the warrior’s arms. The cathars struck out at him, thinking him no more than a simple cultist, their foolishness betraying them as black mana and a swift blade skewered man and woman alike. Yet even as Lukas held his ground, he knew that these demons would not be able to hold this region under such a concerted effort, and that no matter what his prowess was, he could not staunch the tide of angels alone. And so, with the blood of fallen militia men coating his stolen blade, the sorcerer slipped away from the battleground, seeking out the undefended and the innocent, those who would be most efficiently slaughtered in the angel’s own strongholds. 

He would draw them away, scatter the angelic forces with the dying screams of the innocent. He had once fought alongside warriors much the same as these cathars, and he knew their tact. Together, they were strong. But get them alone, and they fell as easily as goats to his tainted blade .
