Claiming [4,4] Selin stared at the faces surrounding him, the scrutiny of his fellow cultists searching him for a hint of weakness or duplicity. The hermit had imagined such would be his reception. Were the tables turned, he would study them with his full focus, waiting for the slightest slip as an excuse to pronounce judgment upon the one in whom he sensed vulnerability. There was not a drop of compassion amongst the ring of dark-cloaked figures, nor should there have been. Compassion was a fragile thing, and it led to one's downfall more often than not. Selin had discovered that long ago, before he took to the wilds to escape the falsehoods of society. Still, the minutes seemed like hours as he was surrounded by the cultists. Finally, one of the cultists turned and walked away, not saying a word but merely leaving of his own accord. A couple more followed moments later, and at last, Selin was free to enter the ravaged section of the city unmolested. Though he kept his hands at his sides, Selin wanted to mop the sweat from his forehead; it was a good thing his dark hair was long, or else they might have noticed that the tension was starting to get to Selin, as much as he had been trying to compose himself. No matter. It made no difference at this juncture. The siege was taking longer than expected, from what he had gathered. It hadn't helped that his horse had died en route to the scene of conflict, forcing him to walk the rest of the way. More than a few wolves had crossed his path in the process; more than a few wolfpacks were currently mourning the loss of their bloodkin. The tight-lipped man continued on in silence, the comforting aura of night allowing him to relax as he strode the ruined streets, seeking somewhere in which he could make himself useful. His master knew he was here. He had sensed the demon's eyes over his shoulder ever since he left the shrine; it was a most uncomfortable sensation that accompanied the knowledge that he was being watched at all times. It was even worse, now; the closer he came to the site of the siege, the stronger his master's gaze became. Selin cursed the demon's suspicions; he had every right to wonder what lurked in the cultist's thoughts, but it was irritating all the same. The man made a mental note to monitor his lord's mood especially closely when they inevitably came face-to-face. As he traversed the streets, the cultist soon developed a nagging suspicion - that these streets were still contested, not yet under the fist of his master. If so, the hermit wanted to make things more difficult for their enemies. Mouth moving in hushed whispers, the cultist weaved the shadows through his fingers, setting up arcane wards to protect this location. Should any angel-lover stray too far, Selin would be aware of it instantly. His thoughts turned once more to the scout whose corpse now lay tucked away in the cave, and he imagined an entire public square filled with the bodies of cathars and pilgrims. The thought brought a smile to his face; just as he had known fear and anguish leading up to his exile, so too would be the townsfolk know great and hideous terror. He would make sure of that.

Obstinance?
Until you've had an in-law tell you your choice of game was stupid, and just Warcraft on paper, and dumbed down for dumber players who can't handle a real RPG, you haven't lived.
You haven't lived.
Lady and gentlemen.... I present to you the Edition War without Contrition, the War of the Web, the Mighty Match-up!
We're using standard edition war rules. No posts of substance. Do not read the other person's posts with comprehension. Make frequent comparison to video games, MMOs, and CCGs. Use the words "fallacy" and "straw man", incorrectly and often. Passive aggressiveness gets you extra points and asking misleading and inflammatory questions is mandatory. If you're getting tired, just declare victory and leave the thread. Wait for the buzzer... and....
One, two, three, four, I declare Edition War Five, six, seven eight, I use the web to
Go!
D&D should not return to the days of blindfolding the DM and players. No tips on encounter power? No mention of expected party roles? No true meaning of level due to different level charts or tiered classes? Please, let's not sacrifice clear, helpful rules guidelines in favour of catering to the delicate sensibilities of the few who have problems with the ascetics of anything other than what they are familiar with.
Just a quick note on the MMORPG as an insult comparison...
MMORPGs, raking in money by the dumptruck full. Many options, tons of fans across many audiences, massive resources allocated to development.
TTRPGs, dying product. Squeaking out an existence that relys on low cost. Fans fit primarily into a few small demographics. R&D budgets small, often rushed to market and patched after deployment.
You're not really making much of an argument when you compare something to a MMORPG and assume people think that means bad. Lets face it, they make the money, have the audience and the budget. We here on this board are fans of TTRPGs but lets not try to pretend none of us play MMORPGs.
Adding options at the system level is good. Adding options at the table level is hard.
Removing options at the system level is bad. Removing options at the table level is easy.
This is not complicated.
Something like Tactical Shift is more magical than martial healing.
Telling someone to move over a few feet is magical now? :|
I weep for this generation.
Given the laziness and morbid obsesity amongst D&Ders, being able to convince someone to get on their feet, do some heavy exercise, and use their words to make them be healthier must seem magical.

Oh interesting. I'll fix that. The central square had become the best-defended place in the city. Angels patrolled the skies, and cathars the ground. There were wards everywhere. Refugees from demonic violence from across the city came from protection. Ada flew around to spread the news and make sure all the weak and endangered were brought there. She was much more comfortable doing something like that then fighting. It was on such a flight that she saw the target of Eric's search: a requiem angel named Talera keeping some townsfolk guarded with help from the revenants of their fallen friends and family. Ada, not recognizing her, gave her directions to the central square and told her to put her geists to rest or to use them on the attack. Ada also returned to her old tower to bring those who, though safe within its walls, were in need of angelic healing. As the only angel there, she could bring but a few, and she could not bear to go inside the makeshift battlefield hospital on the twelfth floor and look at those she couldn't rescue. She asked Jacob to do the triage. Jacob didn't like it either, and so he did it eagerly, and with judicious care. There were not a lot of ways left that he could suffer for his cause and so he treasured each one more dearly. Ada, using the little Avacynian magic that she knew, could carry four. She returned at the same time that Talera had made sure that her humans were in good hands and her geists were haunting the nearest bad of cultists and flew right into Eric's path. Eric's intial impression was correct - Talera did look very much like his fallen sister, though her form was an idealized, angelic version that would have made him slightly uneasy even if her death had been peaceful. Eric called out to her and described the resemblance and asked for his sister's whereabouts as quickly and succinctly as he could, because he knew that if he faltered he would not be able to finish. Talera explained, as carefully yet adamantly as she could, that she was pretty sure such a resemblance was just a coincidence; but she had at one point seen a soul that looked very much like her in a little village in Stensia. Eric confirmed that he grew up, and his sister died, in the same village. Talera sorrowfully explained that the soul in question did not attain the Blessed Sleep and was condemned to walk the earth - likely still walked the eath - as a geist. Eric asked the angel why she was in such a horrible state: What was he missing? Was it the way she died? Did she seek vengeance on the demon that killed her?, but it was only to pretend he did not know the answer. Talera's response only confirmed this: The monstrosity of the demon's acts did not matter. Demons had killed many in this battle, amd if properly buried, their souls would reach the afterlife intact. What his sister needed was redemption. (Making this stuff up as I go along is making it a bit deus-ex-machina.) Attack [2,3], Reinforce [1,1].

A quesstion for a devil: Special on (3,2)
Do you follow Tevish around for flavor reasons of devils following demons, or is there something else I'm not getting?
and some tips for angels, if they're looking for tips:
It seems like the right strategy right now is to heal [3,3] whenever it gets to 9 or less and when it's not use our +1s and -1s elsewhere. I think we should make some other A13s. [1,1] and [2,4] are the easiest places. And please, please don't claim [3,1] or [1,3].
