3 is a fine cost, especially to give another creature first strike on top of it.
Pair with a flipped Delver to make him more difficult to deal with
Pair with Accorder Paladin to make his 3/1 less of an issue and pretty much make him awesome
Pair with a bloodthirsted Stormblood Berserker to make him a 3/3 first striker that has to be double blocked...
In limited pair with Wolfir Silverheart for 8/8 and 6/6 first strikers...

doesn't the green one cost 2 and give deathtouch... 2xFS deathtouch turn 3 sounds plenty gross to me

Or you can just go GW and get double strike instead, for a slightly more mana intensive cost.
Everything Mown does is elegant.
