For this weeks favorite I want to ask...

What is your favorite burn spell and why?

Personally, I gotta go with the old staple Lightning Bolt

. It is everything I could want in a burn spell. Cheap, effienct and deadly.

Normally I pick these things from vorthosian sensibilities, but for static burn I really have to say Lightning Bolt

. X-burn is a silghtly different category, for which I really want to support the classic Fireball

, even if it has been utterly outdone by Comet Storm

I'm partial to Volt Charge

myself, mainly because Proliferate is one of my all-time favorite mechanics and any card that tacks it on is made better by it in my eyes.

Bolt, followed by Incinerate

and Chain Lightning

Oh, I also absolutley LOVE dividable burn spells, Arc lightning

, Cone of Flame

, Forked Bolt

etc.

I recently got myself a playset of Beta Bolts. I R happy.

In standard right now, Red Sun.

Lightning bolt is old faithful. I still love Red Sun's Zenith which ties with Comet Storm for second.

I wouldn't say so, but I don't consider "lose life" to be burn.
For me, burn is direct damage. Life loss is different.

There's not that much difference is there if its a noncreature spell that lowers the opponents life total.
Consume Spirit would be "burn" but not Exsanguinate ?
Essence Drain but not Soul Feast ?
