I...am just at a loss right now. Is it really legal to copy Drogskoll Captain with Phantasmal Image?

Really??

'Cause screw Delver himself; the Captain (or Image) should be getting the Banhammer!

So back when U/W Classic Delver was winning stuff all over and WRR was pretty decent too, I started playing Frites. I love Reanimator, and this deck is just so solid. It also kicks Delver's butt, and has an excellent matchup against WRR to boot. In fact, even up to a few weeks ago, I was literally something like 10-1 for matches against Delver. However, they were all MageBlade or Classic U/W. I took a week or so break from playing tourneys, and just started testing again tonight for quite a bit to see how new versions of Frites worked (Shimmering Grotto is crap).

I just played multiple versions of this new Spirit Delver, and they just make me want to cry. Drogskoll Captain, Image, CA up the ass, the best splashable Counterspells ever made, Snag, Dungeon Geists, AND Lingering Souls in one deck?

Seriously, do I just need to wait for Rotation, or am I missing something? Because those games felt like I was playing Affinity again.

It's definitely legal to copoy Drogskol Captain with Phantasmal Image. Hell, the image can copy any creature, even those with hexproof since he doesn't actually "target". My roommate loves using image to copy Invisible Stalker and annoying stuff like that.

I was under the impression that people started shying away from Spirit Delver because of how easily Corrosive Gale wrecked its face (you should put several of those in your sideboard if spirit delver bothers you.

I don't think you should quit because card combinations and things like that are always going to be around in some form or another. You just gotta crack the code of how to deal with it, because nothing in standard is unbeatable. Some things are more challenging than others.

It happens, my sweet control deck just flops on it's back to BW Tokens. There simply aren't enough Day of Judgment s to break their tempo hard enough

Curse of Death's Hold helps with that, I hear.

Welcome to 2012.  Blue has the most efficient creatures, black has the all-in monocolored aggro deck, the most controlling deck in the format is green-red, control decks lose to aggro in attrition wars, and counterspells aren't an answer to fatties.

corrosive gale is plague wind against them.  That's why they dropped out of favor:  they were so easy to hate out.

FULL DISCLOSURE:  The dream was post AVR so there was a copy of Slayer's Stronghold.  I decided to keep it pre AVR in my post here.

EDIT: I just remembered.  The Skirges might have been 2x Whipflare and 1x something else, probably War and Peace.

EDIT2:  Currently 4-0 in my first four games with this.  My opponents have been very angry.  I fought off a Wurmcoil from Grixis for six turns before I found my second Dispatch.  Jeez, I can do a lot of damage.

EDIT3: Streak broken.  Lost to an unexpected Overrun.    Cracking a Shrine for 10 wasn't enough.

Kessig Wolf Run is a hilarious way to get rid of an image copy.

Also love an unmetalcrafted dispatch haha.

But seriously, Metamorph and Image is the most reliable way to get rid of a giest. If we didn't have those answers it would be really hard to deal with them.

Also, what was wrong with using the image on the lord of the unreal ? Ok, so it's not as powerful but there's a lot of similarities. And an illusion deck did hit FNM level quality at one point without any complaints.

I really don't see a huge problem with the amount of copy effects. I actually think they enable a lot more decks than cause problems.

According to everyone on these forums. You should only play the best decks in whatever format you want. You are a bad player and should just quit if you intend on using anything else.

Well, good news:  now instead of playing an effectively colorless hate card that crushes the dominant deck, you get to deal with uncounterable titans!

Wait, that's not good news...
