Hi all,

I used to play Magic: The Gathering some time ago. All my cards and everything else are long gone, except for one thing I kept as a memento of those good times and that thing is this:

My question is - where did it originally come from? I got it in return for a foil Nantuko Shade way back in the days of Torment. It appears to be made of some sort of stone and inside is a deck of playing cards (Ace of Spades, Jack of Clubs. etc) with the Magic: The Gathering card back design. I've tried searching for it in the Inernet, but with no results. Can any of you knowledgeable folk be able to tell me where it might have originally come from? I've considered the possibility that it might not be an official Wizards product, but that doesn't bother me - I think it looks great and the playing cards inside get some use.

Thank you!

I suspect that the deck box and playing cards are actually unrelated. I can find auctions and sites selling playing cards like you describe (which are, apparrently, long out of print and somewhat collectible), but none that seem to come in a fancy box. If I had to guess, it's just a normal deck box (made to hold a 60-card Magic deck), of which there have been hundreds of varieties, what someone put a deck of those poker cards inside.

Sorry I can't say more, but I'd never even heard of Magic-backed playing cards before.

The regular playing card deck itself is worth plenty as well. But the box, I've never seen anything like it before this thread.

Very interesting. Despite the potential value I'm gonna keep hold of it - it's all I have left of my TCG-playing days. I did try using it as a deck box during my playing days, but it wouldn't hold a full deck once I'd put them in protective sleeves.

Thanks for all the help folks and I bow before Tivoko's superior forum-searching skills!
