Cleaver. I know it's early for hating, but we don't have good answers for that in a deck with a decent number of humans. I don't want stability.

Yeah, that's a single creature that we're probably going to throw out early and trade with someone else's bear. If we had two, then there's a decent chance of finding one. It can be really hard to race a Butcher's Cleaver that comes online, since each Gather the Townsfolk kills two of our creatures and gains the opponent 8 life.

I considered hating the cleaver. I won't call it a wrong move. I'm just a little tiny bit more concerned about getting our curve right before picks get scarce than I am about a cleaver.

You don't have to hate the cleaver, you can play it in pretty much any deck and we already have at least two humans. But I see what the other people are saying about taking a 2 drop here, there aren't a lot of picks left to even out the curve.

Unless of course the human dies to first strike, from say... a Village Ironsmith . Then the human simply dies. Unless my opponent has an Invisible Stalker I'm really not going to get too worked up over the fact that they *might* have a butcher's cleaver, especially when I already have an answer for it in my main deck. That's even assuming that we ever face the player who ends up taking the cleaver. Hate picking is the last thing we should be doing when we're sitting on a grand total of two 2-drops and a very good one is sitting in the pack in front of us.

I'd also say that if you're trading off your Torch Fiend early when you know that your opponent has a Butcher's Cleaver and that it's a threat to your deck then you're probably doing something wrong.

The Village Ironsmith is not as good a two-drop in our deck than it might be in a dedicated werewolf deck. As you keep pointing out, we've got a ton of three-drops, so we're relying on our opponent lacking a play to transform it on its second turn out. By the time we can expect something better than an overcosted Tundra Wolves , its time has passed.

Bloodline Keeper isn't as good a card in a random deck as he is in a dedicated vampire deck either. I'm still going to play him though.

In a block filled with 2/1s I'm pretty happy to have a Village Ironsmith on the battlefield, especially in a deck with late game threats. Transformed or not.

I liked the Cleaver on the last pick, and I like it here as well. It turns every creature you have into a threat that your opponent must deal with.
