Is Sever the Bloodline a card to watch? I feel like there could be many factors contributing to its potential value: 1. Undying. 2. Spirit Tokens. 3. Gravecrawlers 4. Sword of War and Peace taking the place of Feast and Famine. 5. Ease of mana costs for splash. Not to mention it does provide an innate 2 for 1 due to its flashback for late game usage. The big knocks are that it isn't instant and we wish it cost 1 less for the first play and the flashback... that said we're used to unfair and this is a very well costed card that may be ready to attack. What does everyone else think?
Boasts?

I run 2 sb in my rb heartless deck. Great against solar flare and tokens. I think if zombie aggro does become a real deck, id take it up to 3 in the board. I dont know about main decking it over doomblade or go for the throat, it just costs so much.

Right after ISD, I was toying with playing it in grixis control. However, when the creatures are so small, it's not really worth it. I'd rather not wait till t4 to kill a delver or a snapcaster mage.

It was revealed to me in a dream. All the cards were in my dream except for three slots which I plugged in as Vault Skirge.
FULL DISCLOSURE: The dream was post AVR so there was a copy of Slayer's Stronghold. I decided to keep it pre AVR in my post here.
EDIT: I just remembered. The Skirges might have been 2x Whipflare and 1x something else, probably War and Peace.
EDIT2: Currently 4-0 in my first four games with this. My opponents have been very angry. I fought off a Wurmcoil from Grixis for six turns before I found my second Dispatch. Jeez, I can do a lot of damage.
EDIT3: Streak broken. Lost to an unexpected Overrun. Cracking a Shrine for 10 wasn't enough.

I think Sever the Bloodline is a fantastic card, but it isn't right for this metagame full of illusions (or more recently, the shift to delver-based equipment builds). If you're only getting some tokens or most likely a single threat at a time, then you might as well run Black Sun's Zenith . Sever will be better in a format that has a more expensive being commonly played.

It definitely a good card but it isn't as good now as it was a month ago. I'd still pick them up if you haven't Niche.

It has been my practice since shortly after innistrad came out to have 1-2 of them in my sideboard they are amazing versus control eats wurmcoil has flashback eats grave titan has flashback.. No rites target. Eats sun titan and a couple images Has flashback/ no rites target. I love this card. Its also good to note however that I am a control player so i generally have lots of mana floating around :P

I feel like there's 2 things holding it back: 1. Ratchet Bomb exists. 2. Sorcery Speed
If Ratchet Bomb wasn't in the format, this would be the de-facto token hate card. With RB though, it's just not quite as good. Undying is very potent, but the good creatures are heavy green and black, neither of which is playable in standard right now.

Personally, I use one copy main and one more side. It is a great card with multiple applications, the card may sit a turn or two in your hand but you will find the right target for it eventually and when you do it is game changing. I've found this card to be less of a dead card than black sun's in most match ups and most situations.
Think about it, wurmcoil is one target you'd like to get rid of without killing it. But, there are many more likely targets such as doomed traveler, solemn, veridion emmisary and multiple copies of any creature on the field.
Knowing how and when to use this this card determines its effectiveness, like most cards.

The card wrecks tokens. The card wrecks Image/Titan. Its a sideboard option, or 1 main 1 side for the most part, like slaugh said.

Been waiting for this thread, I have gotten into the habit of maindecking 2 severs lately. As previously stated it deals with tokens and Sun Titan Image. I have gotten good use out of it killing solar flare's bombs, and also many snapcasters and delvers when they tap out. If you hit 7 mana it's totally just gravy to make many decks just not do anything.
