i have already stated that i think path to exile can be irrelivant. ajani vengeant: great card, but again, really necessary? wrath of god: damnation is the same thing exept black gideon: too much mana (for a planeswalker and again, necessary?) elseph: just like ajani great card, but really necessary? esper charm: blightning is just as good celestial colonnade: isnt creeping tar pit or lavaclaw reaches just as good? the only card so far as to run white in this deck is the new sorin.
Path's relevance isn't really the issue. The issue is that it's simply better than anything else. It costs less, doesn't have any targeting restrictions at all and pre-empts all the various stuff that destroy wouldn't. Gideon and Ajani may not be neccesary, but they're miles better than anything else allowed.
For Esper Charm and Colonade... you seem to be ignoring what this deck does. It's control. In the control matchup coloande does the same damage as reaches for 5 mana, and while you can't pump it for a one turn win, but it's bigger buttwise, blocks flyers and can block is huge. For Esper Charm, well, you do realize that we're the control here, right? The damage is irrelavant, but the possibility to draw cards, be an extra solution to enchantments that we're maindecking and the instant-speed all play into control's hands. You may very well just want to gut their hand, but being able to do it at their EoT, or (much more likely) draw during their EoT make it miles better.
The manabase may have it's pain, but it's not unstable and the options that white have give Cruel Control more power. Those cards may be "unneccasary", but their better than the options in other colors.
Luckily, we have stop-having-fun guys to remind us that having anything more than 60 cards in your deck is tantamount to being a rapist and anyone considering it should be strung up by their **** .

Also, Modern has literally perfect mana, so there's seriously little incentive not to run the white.
