You are a Planeswalker and you are looking for a challenge..

Tired of playing newbies and people using double decks such as Realm of Illusion. Have a loyal group of friends you play and that's all that guarantee that you get satisfactory playing time. Surprised

Anyone looking for a challenge or a way to prove that they are better than the rest are welcome to join the ladder league of Fighters of Fate. We are originally a private Steam group who decided to try out the ladder system to see if it would add anything good to our gaming in DOTP.

The ladder league is a ranking system where individual players receive a rank once they have won their first game vs any other player that is on the ladder. Basicly you gain points from winning vs another player. The higher the rank is of the player you have challenged the higher you go up in the rankings, meaning 2 players in the bottom of the rankings only improve their rank slightly if one of them beats the other.

Ok, so how does one player challenge another player?

First of all. One thing about the ladder is that you will find other players that you haven't played before that you are able to challenge. As long as they are online you can add them to your friendlist and chat with them. However seeing that this doesn't always work for people we use the group chat function to make it easier for people to look up other players. This way you can still text each other without being steam friends.
There's even the option of putting up a formal challenge once you have received a ranking in the league. This means that you can f.ex challenge the number one ranking player and if it's not completed within the week he will automatically loose points in the rankings.

How do you join?

You can contact me, Aeonikus through the forums here by sending me a message. You can also find me on steam same name there also. Feel free to add me and send me a message, whatever works for you.

Current status of the ladder?

Right now we have 16 players enrolled in the ladder league. Our plan is to begin holding tournaments once more members have joined the league. Any new events will be posted on the ladder league page and in our Steam group + in our new group here also: Fighters of Fate.

Feel free to add comments in this thread. Any feedback and/or questions will be appreciated, thanx for reading up on this! Wink

You should change the title of this thread.  What you have described here is not a ladder ranking system.  It's not even a hybrid Ladder/Points system.  It's simply a straight up points system, and one with some glaring flaws.

In a ladder, you start ranked last.  That's just how it is.  You don't even rank your players until they have already won a match.

Furthermore, you have to climb the ladder.  Kind of the reason it's called a ladder.   IRL, do you ever start climbing a ladder from the middle, or the top?  No you start at the bottom.  And how do you get to the top, by going up rung by rung until you've conquered all of the rungs.   That's how a Ladder Ranking System should work.  You are allowed to only challenge players within a certain range of your ranking.  As you win against more people you will go up and up, until you find that spot where you are surrounded by players with a skill that is near equal to yours.

With your system, all I would have to do is challenge the top 3 every week and I'd be #1 in no time at all.  I wouldn't even have to play 20% of the people in your league, but by the rankings, it'd look like I was better than all of them.  But I did nothing to prove that I was better than #4-#16.

Chancellor of the Spires is one of the worst cards in the deck. With only two of them, you are almost never going to get one in your starting hand. If you do get it in your starting hand, it will just sit there. If you get to cast it, it will get burned immediately.

CW is NOT how a mono blue deck should work.

The players are listed but without a rank until they have their first win. I didn't build the site we're using I just observe and take notes and that is the way it is for whatever reason. So basicly you don't have a last rank. At least not as a beginner/rookie.

On the site they call it a ladder or ladder league. So, just to put things straight I didn't pretend it was a ladder just by calling it a ladder. You are right in order to reach the 1st rank you have to climb the ladder. But unless I have misunderstood (which can happen(I am human after all Wink)) you gain more from winning a challenge vs a higher ranked player rather than one in the lower rankings. You don't get the first place in the rankings from beating nr. 1 if  you're ranked 10 or 12 you just go up some more.

What an odd website.

I need more info to find your league on the site though.  I tried searching Fighters  of Fate and it found nothing.  I tried searching for your name and your friends name, but I think it won't let you do that, and only allows you to search by league name.

How about including XBLA and PS3? 3 different ladders I suppose. This sounds cool but I'd rather not have to purchase the game again.

I dont think different platforms can play each other wich is a shame. You can start a ladder of your own though, for ps3 or xbla.

HikaruGunner and I started our ladder up and you can do the same if you like. It is a shame that we can't play together across platforms, but that is unfortunately the way it is right now. Cry

So yeah, it is not possible to include XBLA and PS3. Our ladder is for PC users only.
