Are basic lands assumed to be just basic, or can they be made Snow-Covered if necessary?

text given as card types/supertypes are the furthest-to-the-left on the card as can be. There's no room to shove "Snow" on a card labeled "Land" or "Basic Land." Likewise, you can't add Legendary or Artifact to a card labeled Creature.
Although...
One idea I was throwing around was that players could "force" edits like that, at the cost of the card looking right (i.e. losing 1 point on it). But since basic lands won't be rated (they're always a legal design on a card they fit on), that doesn't work for them.

Oh, you mean like if a card is labeled Forest can that mean its subtype is Forest and you can make it a Snow-covered Forest? No. If the description is a card's name (either a real card or a card in the almanac above), it's that card.
