Chalice of Life (Uncommon) - Artifact : You gain 1 life. Then if you have at least 10 life more than your starting life total, transform Chalice of Life. The sweet taste of hope's promise.
Chalice of Death : Target player loses 5 life. The bitter taste of life's only certainty.

Oh hay, did one of the people [Debutantes avert your eyes]ing about how cards work different in different formats get on the design team? I mean he traditional version of this card would be pretty stupid in EDH, but the format is also a lot more rife with artifact hate, but it's a cool card either way, so whatevs.

I'm glad that they finally found a way to make cards like this that aren't immediately retarded in Commander.
Oh, and this card seems cool. It makes me want to make a lifegain deck so I guess it accomplished its mission.

This card is pretty cool. It's uncommon, so I should be able to pick up a few. I'll build a standard deck around this. It won't be good, but I'll like having it

I was one of the people who complained about how poorly cards like Serra Ascendant and Felidar Sovereign translated into formats with different starting life totals, so its nice to see that you listened (or were bothered by the same things, I guess).
Good job.

I know the art is pretty small scale, but are we seeing Avacyn vs Griselbrand on that chalice? I'm sure all angels look pretty similar at that size, but it *does* look at least a bit Avacyn-y. Griselbrand definitely has the upper hand on the death side.

This is pretty difficult to evaluate, but so far I think this has been pretty well undervalued for limited. Repeatable free lava axes? Sign me up. In a control deck, you stabilize, regain your life, and start bashing for 5. I have a feeling this will show up in standard, as well. I don't think it could replace Pristine Talisman, since the mana is part of what makes using Talisman so good, but I'd keep an eye on it. 4 turn unblockable clocks are generally nothing to sneeze at.

No one is arguing that lava axing your opponent isn't good, the bad part is that you have to play life gain for this to be any good.

You know what, I totally misread the card. I somehow thought it said "Gain one, if you have at least 10 life, flip." That made it pretty absurd. As it is, yeah... not so absurd at all.

Well, when you read it like that, this card is just broken beyond repair.

bonus points to anyone who says "you chose.. poorly" when you flip it
You do realize that now I have to obtain a copy and flip it at least once JUST so I can do this? Do you see what madness you've unleashed upon the world? I hope you're happy.

Playing life gain isn't so bad when you're playing Martyr Proc in modern .

If someone ever kills me with this in limited, I will buy them a booster box on the spot.
This is interesting, but I don't think it does anywhere near enough work to ever be pickable in limited.

Playable in limited in controlling or defensive decks but don't expect it to flip to often.
Constructed it's way to slow and doesn't win you the game when it flips so it's not playable.

Eh, I was expecting something a little more interesting from the first transforming artifact in the set. Also it promotes the kind of decks I despise more then anything.

I don't forsee this flipping in Limited...ever. I can see it as an obnoxious stall card, though.
While I tend to generally agree, the self-mill Spider Spawning decks in limited are likely to see this flip from time to time, simply for the fact that Gnaw to the Bone has the potential to give some huge chunks of life with a decent creature count and enough enablers.

This equals win times infinity.
EDIT- Also, for those who say this will never flip in Limited, wait til we see the whole set. Maybe there will be a card that transforms any DFC, like:
Nightside Amulet, , U Artifact Sacrifice ~: Transform target permanent. (Only dual-faced cards can be transformed.)
