so I see that a Jund'ish deck is floating around and know that Storm will allways make its mark but I was wondering what people thought about some of the older decks from the same period as these, particularly Assault/Swans....

It's not good. I've been trying. It just lacks on all fronts- it doesn't work well as control, not as consistent as other combo decks, more vulnerable than other combo decks, and is only fast enough to turn aggro into a coin flip of who goes first. At least, that's my experience.
Fae isn't too bad, but the reason Jund has carried into modern is just because its that powerful. Free spells and the amount of CA generated by the spells is amazing
