I got a promo from duels of the planeswalkers 2012 and i was wondering if it is in standard??

Was it a Titan? If so, yes, Titans are Standard legal no matter what edition they are (because they were in the set Magic 2012)
It's really not even about giving niche cards to black.
It should be about giving black cards to Niche.

put a little more elegantly, as long as a card is ALSO printed in a set currently legal in Standard, you can play with any version of that card.
