Creatures 17
4 Viridian Emissary 4 Snapcaster Mage 4 Solemn Simulacrum 3 Acidic Slime 2 Grave Titan Spells 17
4 Ponder 4 Think Twice 3 Smallpox 2 Go for the Throat 2 Beast Within 2 Garruk Relentless Lands 26
4 Darkslick Shores 4 Hinterland Harbor 4 Woodland Cemetery 2 Ghost Quarter 6 Swamp 3 Forest 3 Island Sideboard
4 Nihil Spellbomb 3 Wring Flesh 3 Black Sun's Zenith 3 Memory's Journey 2 Doom Blade The sideboard needs a lot of work, the two cards in it I'm really unimpressed with are Memory's Journey and Doom Blade but I don't know what would make good replacements. The deck is pretty consistent and I've opted for full sets of Ponder and Think Twice to keep it this way. I might think about dropping one of those to 3 however and adding another Garruk Relentless as he is just beastly in this deck. I feel the creature base is solid as they can provide defense against aggro, or apply pressure against control, and they all generate CA with pox. Beast Within and Go for the Throat seem like the best mainboard answers against threats right now however can be substituted accordingly. Possible sideboard cards are Thrun, the Last Troll just because of how beastly he is against control but I don't know if he is what I need. This deck is really fun to play and I feel like it can be beastly just because of how good the cards in it are and would really appreciate any tweaking and suggestions, thanks!

i'm pretty sure that this deck would lose to its own mana base before anything else.
your sideboard doesn't make any sense.

How does the SB not make sense. Every card in the board has a use.

i just don't agree with the numbers and the removal spells just seem... off. too many GY hate cards.

It makes sense, you just do not agree with the amount of GY and the numbers.

I have been having trouble with the mana base sometimes but I'm not sure what the best numbers would be to make it more consistent, if you have any suggestions I would really appreciate it. As far as the sidebaord goes I agree that I have far too many GY hate spells and removal, thats why I'm looking to replace Memory's Journey and Doom Blade and would be open to alternatives to Wring Flesh though I have had decent results with it against infect and some aggro decks. If you have any suggestions on how to fix either of these things I'd gladly listen.

first, remember that viridian emissary isn't really ramp or mana fixing, at least not in the traditional sense. maybe birds would be better in that regard. also, i'm confused why you're trying to make pox work in this deck. what is it really for? it just seems like it may hurt you more than them as you aren't really capitalizing on it in any noticable way. i'd say a revamping to make it more of just a solid BUG deck seems better. maybe more creatures or other cards. i think this deck is supposed to be sorta midrange and you may want more things like thrun. i feel like there are holes in your game plan, like somehow you won't have specific things you're looking to do at certain stages of the game. (sorry if that doesn't really make sense, but i'm not entirely sure what i'm even trying to say here) ponder isn't a good card... i could go into a length discussion on this, but many already have laid out the details in several other threads. the board should have more specific cards in it for your problem matchups, whatever those may be. if you struggle with tempered steel, for example, you maybe should run creeping corrosion. ramp? run some flashfreeze. control? negate. things like that. however, developing your maindeck needs to happen before you can properly address the board. if you do want to purse the pox route further, have you ever considered the idea of using something like mimic vat ? um... yea. does any of this make any sense? if i'm way off, then i understand, but my point is that this deck just seems unfocused.

I appreciate the response and will try to address everything you've said. The gameplan behind this deck is to use effecient cards that generate CA while disrupting my opponents mana base with pox, slime, and beast and killing off their relevant threats. I've won a fair amount of games when I haven't drawn pox as well and would be open to making a more traditonal control style build, probably replacing poxes with counters. Birds were the first 1 drop I had in the original version however I found usually I was just pitching them to pox and losing 2 sources of mana instead of one, which kind of counters the advantage I'm trying to gain. I'm not really trying to ramp as much as just have more lands than my opponent after I've destoryed a couple of theirs. That being said however I did like the fixing Birds provided and if this deck goes in a more traditional control direction I will probably include them. The next 1 drop I tried was Despise which was nice as I could hit relevant threats, but I was fairly underwhelmed by it most of the time and so I settled on Ponder for consistencies sake and it has been decent in helping me set up my game plan. That being said if you say Ponder is a bad card and I've read some of the discussion threads about I will happily replace it, I just don't know if there is another 1 drop that really works well in this deck, though I'm sure there is something. As far as the board goes I like the idea of Flashfreeze / Negate . I typically do ok against most aggro as I have a fair amount of little creatures to use as chumps, and if I can pox on them I usually win as they aren't really prepared to lose that many things. Ramp is usally an issue as I can't disrupt their mana base fast enough however Flashfreeze could make things really hard for them. Mimic Vat is a cool card however I think its too slow for this deck. I'm usually trying to pox turn 3-5 after I've dropped a creature and usually I would rather just play it that wait a turn by setting it up with vat. I get why you say it seems unfocused and I kind of agree, maybe I should add more disruption/discard? I will tefinitely test a couple counters in the board, I'd like to keep pox for now just because when it does play out, it works really well and can make it so hard for an opponent to come back, however if it would be a better deck to remove it I will definitely switch it out, I just don't know where I would take it after then.

Ok so I've revamped the deck to make it more focused on disrupting the opponent. I've cut out 5 creatures because even if they give me something when they die, it still isn't pox friendly. Now the deck is designed to disrupt the opponent's hand and mana base until I can push through with Grave Titan for the win. I've got a lot of dig and the deck plays well out of the GY now with Snappy providing lots of card advantage. I've also redone the mana base to be more consistent. I'm still working out the sideboard but what do you think about the new look of the deck?
