While we're on the topic of spells depicting manly men, I'll just throw Force of Will   guy in there.

Urza? With charisma?  He could rule the Universe!*

I am surprised at the lack of Floral Spuzzem / Ekundu Cyclops in this thread.  Well, until now.
How about Richard Garfield, Ph.D. ? Or Sanctum Guardian ?
I know! Scornful Egotist !

My honorary mention.
Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir
Mucled? nope
big weapons? Look like clubs to me (he plays baseball flourentine)
stand sup for the weak? sacrificed his planeswalker spark to save millions
And hes STILL badass.

And he also has a manipulative streak so wide that even his friends don't trust him. He's like Urza with charisma., but better... and likable...

Thank-you.  I couldn't remember who Ekundu Cyclops was, just his flavor text.  And the sentient spuzzem is one of my favorite cards of all time.

Aside from my pirate ninja jesus dude, I'd go with Exorcist . Simply because he would've looked badass if they didn't pick such a crappy artist. Drew Tucker, how could you? :'(

I dunno about that one...colour-hosing is the scratch and bite of Magic. Drew Tucker must be a manly man, standing at the nexus of derision as he does.

Mr. Tucker's preferred medium of water colors (or at least it looks like water colors) is very different from most other magic artists (and from fantasy art in general). I'm not going to call it bad, but I do find that it is usually a bad match for the game.

Muscles and big weapons don't make a real man. A real man works to support his family, speaks honestly for what is right and stands up for those who are too weak to defend themselves.

Are there any Magic characters that fit that criteria?

The first one I could think about satisfying that criteria  is Venser .
Also Koth. .

However, I dont think there are many magic characters whose actual blood relatives are still alive. Everybody seems to have had them killed.

Also Im surprised with all the Teferi mentions. Teferi was scheming, suspicious and he certainly did not talk the truth. After he sacrificed his powers he was also slightly loopy in the head.
