I've been feeling my GWB deck didn't have enough mill in it. Then I saw this and was happy.
Very cool card, and will be a player in some decks. That preview deck seems like a lot of fun, so I might try it out when I get the cards.

This deck looks like a fair bit of fun. I normally dislike playing a deck without cheap answers, but if I were inclined to play a deck with a bunch of creatures I might make a few changes to this one and run with it. The only include that I feel is a complete mistake and shouldn't be run by anyone is the two Viridian Emissary, since even a 2/1 unblockable isn't all that impressive in Standard, and Emissary is far from that (Spellskite, for instance, blocks him all day long). Two more copies of Boneyard Wurm seem like a significant improvement.
Also, the Ponders should probably be Dismembers. Ponder is much less impressive than you make it out to be, since Jace's Archivist doesn't exactly mill away extra cards (perhaps you meant Deranged Assistant? That's the one card in the deck that Ponder actually works reasonably well with), and Splinterfright is hardly reliable for that purpose -- I imagine he gets a bigger-than-usual bullseye painted on his head right after you Ponder, in which case you just guaranteed that your next two draws will probably suck.
But yeah, a few more cheap reactive cards (maybe Mana Leak? Not sure on that, but I like to have solutions to cards I can't otherwise deal with, and Leak's a good one) rather than some of the five-drops, maybe cut a land or two (four Birds, four Elves, four Deranged Assistant should provide enough mana even with only 20 land), and you've got a good -- or at least reasonable -- budget deck. Not that this one is necessarily bad, but...personal preferences, I guess.

Have you seen the card prices for Pyromancer Ascension and Pyromancer's Swath? Ascension is a $4 card and Swath is twice that. I spent $12 assembling the Eggs deck back in April before JVL hyped it up for Modern. Silly, consistent, and easily hated out. . . Both these decks have serious problems with hate, so why not just build the cheaper one that demands more skill to operate? Pyromancer's Swath dies to Ethersworn Canonist and Leyline of Sanctity and Chalice of the Void set to 1 or 2, which also hate out the Eggs deck too. Just build the cheaper one with less moving parts - Eggs. Well, technically Eggs is nothing but moving parts, but handily all the parts are the same and you just need 3 artifacts and a Second Sunrise to go off.

This deck needs Birthing Pod really, really badly. It lets you stuff your graveyard with corpses and get your threats.

Good deck, and good preview card. I wish this card hadn't been given to BoaB to preview, though, because I doubt it'll be budget. Note that I'm not complaining about Jacob's deck; other than this card, it's budget, and as has been brought up pretty much every time, and even if it wasn't he's a little less strict about the dollar values of his deck than previous writers, by choice. No problem there. However, I really doubt that this card will be a junk rare like Jace's Archivist . This card is insane. It's a Lhurgoyf for one less mana, with trample, one less toughness and only counts your graveyard, and a self-milling effect. WTF? Admittedly, the self-milling would be a disadvantage on another card and could theoretically hurt you here, but come on, on this card it's an advantage unless you're actually playing against a milling deck. This card is going to be powerful and popular.

I really like the way JVL previews cards, so much more reasonable than any other writer. Other writers fill their columns with hyperbole, saying things like such-and-such card may be a standard staple, when they know it won't be played. JVL is more reasonable, saying a card like this may be a one or two of in certain situations. No hyperbole. Then he presents a budget deck where it might shine. I agree, this is a standard playable card. Wont fit in every deck, may not be backbreaking, but has potential.
