So I used to play Monowhite Control back in old extended. I was wondering if you guys think its possible in Modern? Unfortunately Eternal Dragon isn't legal, but we do get Emeria, which combos with Martyr of Sands better then Proclamation of Rebirth imo because you don't need to waste a card on it and Proclamation anyways costs 6 mana a turn.

This was a sample decklest I wrote up as possible starting point:

Monowhite control

4 Mana Tithe
4 Martyr of Sands
4 Path to Exile
4 Wall of omens
2 Due Respect
4 Oblivion Ring
4 Survival cache
4 Wrath of God
4 Elspeth, Knight Errant
1 Gideon Jura
1 Felidar Sovereign
4 Emeria, the Sky Ruin
20 Plains

What do you think? I can;t decide if Due Respect is good or not. I don't know if Gideon Jura is as good in Modern as it is in Standard, seeing as he costs 5 mana. Survival Cache is I think a necessary card because we need as much card advantage as we can get. I also can;t decide if we want more than just 4 wrath effects, seeing as how popular Zoo will obviously be...

I like this list. Seems like it would be excellent at stopping aggro.  But would it have problems vs combo?

Add Sun Titan? Baneslayer?

There's a huge thread on modern white control here:
forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t...

Anyway, I like it!

EDIT: After reading that entire thread I decided to kick of my Modern carrer with MWC. So thanks for the tip!

The big issue, how do you beat 12 Post, Hive mind and Dragon Storm?

Also, you have a few things that don't seem amazing in your list, you need a DOJ/Wrath split for meddling mage. Less Emeria. More ways of recurring Martyr, Ranger of Eos, Sun Titan, Proclamation of rebirth.

4 Elspeth is about 2 too many.

You don't beat 12 post which is why this deck has no place right now because you are going into a wide open field and you are basically gambling that it's more zoo then 12 post and if you did want to make up some awkward answer to 12 post you would have to splash red and play Land destruction in the side along with ghost quarter which reduces your Emeria effectiveness.

As for hive mind well you're ****ed there. But dragon storm and other storm decks can be beat with silence and angel's grace.
And it's said that youth's ,well only tragedy
Is being unoriginal

I've been running Grace against Hive Mind and it's going well.

But I have some awesome tech to shore up the 12 post match......

Mono white.......twelve post......martyr. Sounds mad, but martyr is exactly what you need to survive with 12 post decks, and white gives you kataki for the affinity match up. Iona coming down early is a beating for a lot of decks, and you have things like sun titan and crucible to recur the ghost quarter and expedition maps against 12 post decks. So it turns the 12 post match up from a bad one, to a curious mirror, which in my opinion is a big boon. Also, you are much less vulnerable to LD than 2-3 colour 12 post, and you get to play normal control spells to hold out a game so you aren't completely reliant on cloudpost to come down. Also, White sun's Zenith for 11 is really strong....

Elesh norn is something I'm trying to squeeze in, I'll post a thread in deck help, please look

Lets face it, the biggest targets in the format are Zoo and 12-post.
MWC eats Zoo. Its probably the matchup its naturally skewed towards.
12-post eats MWC.

Martyr Post is an interesting concept that draws essentially from Martyr Tron. Iona probably is really ineffective against them, as they'll probably just kill you. W/u looks good, gives you access to Condescend which is a godsend, and some draw in Thirst for Knowledge and Gifts [if its really necessary].

Most cloudpost decks are mono, so Iona is pretty solid, it leaves them trying to natureally draw posts and eldrazi.

Actually, the best deck pre-board is Affinity, by miles. If everyone dismisses affinity, it will win PT Philly(provided they can draft).

In terms of the format, this is how I see it:

Affinity

Aggro: One drop Zoo and Burn

Midrange: Bant/Junk/Big Zoo

Combo: Hive mind/D-Storm/Elves

Control: Cloudpost/Gifts Control

Affinity pretty much auto wins against control, combo and midrange, so basically, if people aren't packing 6-8 affinity hate cards in the 75, it's the best deck by miles.

I assume that people will prepare for the coming affinity threat.

EDIT: I'm sure people will tilt towards beatdown anyway, as you cannot control a threat if you don't know what you're trying to control.

The reason I don't like Sun Titan is because I have almost no good targets other than MArtyr of Sands. Baneslayer just dies to Path to Exile, Dismember, Go For the Throat, and Doom Blade and you get no value in return. I would much rather run four Emerias and not have to deal with Proclamation of Rebirth at all because they both do the same thing, but Emeria only replaces a Plains while Proclamation uses up a whole card slot to do nothing but combo with Martyr of Sands.

As for the idea to put 12 Post into MWC, I don't really like it because either you have nothing good to spend your mana on or you add in big stuff. But then why not just run the real Twelve-Post deck?

As for the matchup AGAINST Twelve-Post, atleast Path to Exile removes their threats...any other suggestions to combat it? I'm pretty sure Zoo will make up over 50% of the field.
