You are right DrWorm, we have gotten off the topic of helping out a deck.  Niche's last post just proved to me that we are arguing different points, and so we are not going to get anywhere.  Back to the deck:

I know exactly what Niche is doing (trying to help you) I have no clue what you are trying to do.

Razor generally opposes mono black in any format; you can take his commentary with a grain of salt.

As far as lashing out about people tearing this down...  I for one am not tearing it down based on Consume Spirit vs. Corrupt. I'm simply trying to make your deck better by optimizing your card choices.

I'm actually against the deck because its using bad cards. If you use better mono black cards you'd find me dissenting less. I cannot get behind a deck using Consume Spirit and Painful Quandry. Those cards are just not good enough.

You have indeed suggested alternatives, and that is constructive.  I probably should have been less vague when I was making my comment, as i was not refering to you.  You and I are the only ones commenting with the aim of improving the deck, actually.  I believe sir_leo is trying to do the same, but his suggestions (as well intended as they are) are not taking in to account the metagame that is being faced, and is holding on to cards he feels are good in the abstract.

After more testing last night I actually pulled out 2x Tendrils, Profane Command, and CS in order to go with faster kill spells.  Between kill, discard, and grave exile I can keep a non-artifact aggro deck in check pretty well.  I really need to start testing against other decks.  There are some ISD cards that look amazing for MBC, so I am realyl looking forward to that.

When it involves MBC, one would be wise to listen to Niche.

As for Consume Spirit and Painful Q, one ought to ask oneself "well if they weren't strong enough to be played in standard during their day, why on earth would they be strong enough to make the cut for modern?"

It has not yet been posted.  I did not start this thread, sir_leo did with his much more casual build.  I chimed in with some advice based on the build I was working on, then proceeded to post my progress.  If i had started it I would maintain the OP as a sort of primer to kick off the discussion.  My current build is much like my last build, but a little faster.

Creatures:
2x Kokusho, the Evening Star
2x Grave Titan
4x Abyssal Persecutor
4x Vampire Nighthawk
4x Gatekeeper of Malakir

Other Spells:
4x Thoughtseize
4x Inquisition of Kozilek
2x Tendrils of Corruption
3x Damnation
4x Sign in Blood
4x Go For the Throat

Land:
17x Swamp
3x Bojuka Bog
3x Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth

Go for the Throat was avoided by me in the beginning because it did not work on artifacts.  I thought that in Modern I should be able to make use of something that is more versatile, but in my testing cost was everything and all of the cheap black removal has a limitation.  I though I could, in fact, afford to pay a little more mana to get more targets, but I really needed a 2cmc (or less) kill spell for my curve to take the steam out of Zoo.  Go for the Throat works well in that capacity, but eventually I will have to test against Affinity or 12Post, and I will be wanting something like Last Gasp .

Acually in my Zoo matchup it would do just fine.  I cannot say how it would work against other decks because I do not have a common build to test agianst yet.  I just have not done it yet.  I was sort of waiting for Philly to happen and the lists to be published before I branched out.

It is in my test board.

My current Curve is a little wonky
1:8
2:8
3:12
4:9
5:0
6:4
The Curve I would prefer:
1:8
2:10
3:12
4:7
5:0
6:4

I am wondering if smoothing the curve is worth dropping what little help Tendrils is giving me.  I am thinking of testing Skirsdag High Priest as a 2x replacing Tendrils.  It would smooth the curve, give me a very decent and reliable beater, but he is very boltable.  Just a thought.  It might just be best to use that 2cmc slot for another control card.

I'd run this if I had to stay Mono-Black. Wrench Mind is pretty nice distruption.

21 Swamp
4 Ghost Quarter

4 Gatekeeper of Malakir
2 Grave Titan
1 Wurmcoil Engine

4 Thoughtseize
2 Inquisition of Kozilek
2 Profane Command
4 Sign in Blood
3 Smother
4 Wrench Mind
3 Phyrexian Arena
2 Damnation
4 Tendrils of Corruption
