This thread is for discussion of this week's The Week That Was, which goes live Friday morning on magicthegathering.com.

I'm getting even more excited about Innistrad now. It might just turn out to be all that I wanted Shadowmoor to be, but what it never was.

Basic Island in the rare spot of the Beta pack?!? Epic Fail.
Flag Nyktos July 28, 2011 9:28 PM PDT
Innistrad looks absoluetly awesome. I think Zendikar and Scars of Mirrodin are actually some of the best blocks ever from a flavour POV, but I have a feeling Innistrad will top them.

Incidentally, I'm not a massive Jonathan Coulton fan, but I think he's pretty cool, and I love the Creepy Doll art. I wonder if there are any other cards named after songs.

Also, this just really makes me wish I was there. Going to ComicCon is one of those things that I absolutely have to do at least once in my life.

This.  I love gothic horror to bits.  Just based on the Creepy Doll art, I'm crazy excited for this set.  *gleeful shudder*

Zombies for blue being Frankenstein monsters piqued my interest.

It's a safe bet that there will be some green werewolves, and probably some red vampires.

I have no clue what white is going to get, though...that'll be a real trip.

Even so, I hope that I can make a nice Castlevania theme deck.

If it weren't for that song I really wouldn't like that card name :P It's so... Cheesy.

Flag Nyktos July 29, 2011 1:24 AM PDT
I have a very strong suspicion that it was a playtest name that Creative liked enough to keep.
Flag ZEvilMustache July 29, 2011 4:22 AM PDT
wow... that's a lackluster song. I really hope this card's name has nothing to do with it. On another note, does this mean no Stuffy Doll reprint? Sadness.

I'm guessing ghosts =)

Belfry Spirit
Ruin Ghost
Martyred Rusalka

That kind of flavor

It also highly probable that some zombies will be white. As controllable soldiers, they can easily fit in the order that white seeks. I'm pretty sure part of white's identity in this set will likely be linked to black in an Orzhov fashion. An other part of white's idendity will likely need to be humans fighting the darkness, so it will probably be the least "horrific" color, but there's room for variety.

Thats exactly what i thought too. For example some vampire-hunter´s (with some vampire hate - abilities :D) or priests with crucifixes or the like. Something like Witch Hunter comes to my mind. (although only flavorwise - pinging should stay red flavor)
I also think the ghost idea stated by TobyornotToby seems to fit quite well to me.

The ghost idea is spot-on. MaRo's been spoiling the Innistrad tribes a little bit more on Twitter. "To recap: WU: Ghosts, UB: Zombies, BR: Vampires, RG: Werewolves, GW: ???"

I'm still waiting for a huge black sorcery called Wave of Mutilation.

GW: Maybe some ouphes? I think they are looking pretty creepy *.* Kitchen Finks

As a guy who works hard to get better at Magic with the hope of making it to the Pro Tour, I'm not sure how I feel about that World Championship qualification being handed out at random. Seems like any blue envelope given away for "interesting questions" is one less for the thousands of us grinding away. Maybe it's just sour grapes, but the Pro Tour is supposed to be for the best Magic players - not the best question-asker.

Disclosure - I've never been any higher than FNM.

If WOTC is going to insist on "luck" being a major part of the game itself, I don't mind an occasional
"luck" invite like this. The guys obviously a long time part of the game, one or two invites isn't going to hurt the big tournament. At least it's better than a Mike Long invite.

And I thought it was a great story, especially with his wife there. And that's a fantastic question. They mentioned they were looking for "out of the box" questions, well, that one got out of the box, set it on fire, then went dancing in the streets naked with bacon over its eyes.

And that Creepy Doll art is fantastic, that looks like a fantastic theme for a set.
