I'm happy that green and blue got the best Mages :-)

Anyone else think Crimson Mage is horrible compared to the other four?

Card draw, token generation, lifelink, deathtouch; always good. Haste; not so much.

Would it've been too much to ask to give Crimson Mage a ping ability? "; deals 1 damage to target creature or player."?

Azure and Jade all the way though. Awesome stuff.

Haste is a trifle underwhelming but it has its uses.  I'm actually more sad about the Onyx Mage's deathtouch.  I would have given him the lifelink (since on creatures it always functions as a Drain Life effect if the flavor works), as there are plenty of other things the white one could do while black has always been somewhat starved for good options that can be used this way, keywords or otherwise.  I of course have no complaints whatever about Azure and Jade.

As far as the benefit of the rest of Magic is concerned, gold cards in Legends were executed perfectly. They got all the excitement a designer could hope out of a splashy new mechanic without using up any of the valuable design space. Truly amazing.
