The correct way to play something is to announce it, then pay for it. Thus, instead of LED being a joke, it essentially said "discard your hand, except for that card you want to cast". Around 6E's era, the Urza Panick scared Wizards into intentionally not making any good cards, and to make damn sure no cards intended to be terrible ever accidentally became good. Just look at all those cards they banned explicity to keep Illusions of Grandeur from somehow being a good card.

Yeah, but the discard is apart of a cost, Tutor goes on the stack, opponent decides response, passes priority, you discard your hand as a cost, its written right there on the card. I mean really, it isn't that hard, or really that powerful, except in dredge, and maybe ANT.

It would be a lot more powerful if it could be used to actually cast a spell from your hand normally. Which, as printed, it does (at the expense of the rest of your hand). Sure there is great synergy now with other cards and it would still be there. But it would be nearer to Black Lotus powerif it worked as printed as opposed to "as Oracled." And I definitely think Legacy would have to say goodbye to it.

That second part is true, however as Mirrodin block proved, they failed to do that.

Sorry I was fine-tuning my post as you replied. Things might be a little out of order now. Not sure what you mean?

No, as printed, discarding your hand is apart of the cost. Notice it says Sacrifice Lions Eye Diamond, Discard your hand: You shouldn't be able to get the mana until the hand is fully discarded.
I'm not sure what you mean by "Oracled", sicne that how, at least currentlly as Winter Orb showed us... is how its written.
P.S. that other part wasn't to your post, it was to the guy above ours.

Ah ok. Well the way spells work is that they go on the stack before you pay for them. The one spell you want to cast with the LED would no longer be in your hand and thus you could use the mana to cast it. So they added "use as an instant." Not sure when exactly that change was made as I learned of it much later.

In the mad orgy of "fixing" everything that could possibly be awesome in 6E rules, presumably about thirty seconds after the 6E rules were finalized.
I don't think it's too much to ask that a handful of lands printed just like the Lairs should behave just like the Lairs.

I do remember a lot of errata flying around, just could not keep track of it all. Part of me was in nerdrage over the inability to play at 0 life and the DOTS thing that they added because people were too stupid to understand damage prevention. I didn't like the way the stack worked either compared to batches but I eventually came around on that.
