and what about locus

What about it? Locus is a land type, not a creature type. Mistform Ultimus only has creature types, not other card type subtypes. It is no more a Locus than it is a Plains, a Swamp, an Arcane, an Equipment...

Deck of the day today has Innistrad mountain and forests. Probably an accident.

What they don't tell you in today's arcana is that the art for Mortis Dogs was an unused piece of art from Tenth Edition. (I'm having some real trouble finding that old arcana, but I'm sure some of you remember it.)

Also, @kongopete11, those lands are from Duel Decks: Knights vs. Dragons.

Edit: That's why I couldn't find it. It was an Ask Wizards. It's the July 24, 2007 entry at www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.a... for those who want to see the one unused art left. (The others were used for Snapping Drake , Warpath Ghoul , and Honor of the Pure .)

"If you started playing during the last ten years..." is a bit silly, since it was reprinted in 9th Edition in 2005.

A bit silly and melodramatic, perhaps, but accurate.

...if you started playing in the last, say, ten years or so, you missed its original appearance.

The art of today's (may 12th) Arcana imediately reminded me of Plague Dogs, instead of hollow dogs. Although Plague Dogs are from a later expansion than Hollow Dogs of course...

Regarding the Mistform Ultimus watch, I noticed that the creature type Egg is gone. Are there any others that have been removed? What does this make the total number of creature types then?

I have a Shared Library deck I bust out from time to time which incorporates every creature type and it will be sad to now remove Summoner's Egg as it is now a Construct. And Roc Egg is a Bird? Come on. These are clearly Eggs that, in the case of Roc Egg, should become a bird. So flavorfull! But no.

Also why do Chimeric Coils, Egg, Mass, Sphere, and Staff all become Constructs instead of Chimera? That type needs help! And Chimeric Idol becomes a Turtle? wtf.

Wait, I just counted them all from your list and there are 223 and the difference between that and your old list of 216 would be 7, and the new types added total 8... So you just removed Egg! Why!?

There are quite a few such "only used on the tokens from one card" creature types.  Caribou , Orb , Pentavite , Prism , Reflection , Serf , Splinter , Survivor , Tetravite , and Triskelavite all come to mind.

THere are some more that would qualify except that they got a single nostalgia revisit.  Camarid and Citizen both got Sarpadian Empires, Vol. VII (the latter also got Icatian Crier ), while Sand got Dune-Brood Nephilim .

Some of those creature types are rather silly.

Beyond that, a few cards from the Lorwyn block seem relevant. First, there's the Coward subtype, which has only appeared on Boldwyr Intimidator (originally a "future-shifted" card in Future Sight). And the Goat creature type has only been printed on two cards in the history of the game, but four more were errataed to have it, almost definitely to interact with Goatnapper .

Most of these work well with creatures with the changeling ability. You can sacrifice a Mutavault to Caribou Range or Pentavus , there's probably some Rube Goldberg-esque combo to get infinite mana with Diamond Kaleidoscope and shapeshifters, and Amoeboid Changeling plus Spirit Mirror give you ": Destroy target creature."

Classic Spirit Mirror combo - Unnatural Selection gives you ": Destroy target creature.". Slightly better at the same mana cost as Amoeboid Changeling
