Skullclamp was an uncommon. A very good uncommon, but I don't think it ever got above 5$ when it was in standard. People shell out almost 400$ for playsets of Jaces, you have to tread a little more carefully when you have a large ammount of pretty serious investors who would be very angry if Jace's values would significantly drop.
The irony is that large-scale vendors like CFB and SCG have a greater impact on the DCI's decision than regular gamers. Telling those vendors to eat a loss of tens of thousands of dollars is bad for business.
Take a look at JTMS in extended, it's not much bigger of a card pool, but whilst he's good there, he's not as good in standard, because every colour has decent removal for him. This is the problem. We need to have access to proper answers for him in all colours, it's not rocket science. Stick in Oblivion ring, or some other card that answers him, but isn't completely narrow.

Green should get a cheaper Mold Shambler effect. White should get Oblivion Ring . Black has Vampire Hexmage . Burn doesn't really cut it usually so I guess red would need something else, blue can run Volition Reins , counterspells and bounce spells.

A cheaper version of aether snap would see so much play right now, like a 3-4 mana instant, wipe out all walkers and magnets, seems good to me.

Yeah let's turn off the fire alarms, people. I said it was being discussed and thought it would be interesting to discuss the impact on the metagame. Let's lay off the raging about Jace or about R&D. In all likelihood, they're willing to let him sit for a month, if for no other reason than to avoid a major shake up immediately before regionals.
My gut says enough answers will be in NPH to make Jace easily able to be hated from the sideboard or just give us a strategy capable of going over the top.
I think this is true, but they did ban Skullclamp the day before US Nationals.
I'm not going to throw my opinion into this thread beyond my desire to see the card banned -- along with Primeval Titan -- as my argument would probably just garner TL;DRs.
What I will say is that WotC doesn't give a damn about the secondary market except for cards on the reserve list. And as you guys probably know, no cards will ever be added to the reserve list in the future. None. Not one.
WotC doesn't care how much it cost you to acquire your copies Jace TMS -- and rightfully so, since the integrity of the game is more important.
The problem with cards like the new 1-drop and Revoker is that they are very, very answerable.
If Jace comes down and Fateseals, he's at 5 loyalty. That means that, even if you spend life, 1-drop guy will still cost you 6 mana to drop it *and* remove Jace in the same turn. And if you don't remove Jace with one punch, you're giving the opposing player the opportunity to just play removal. Or Brainstorm their way to a Journey, if they don't have removal available.
What are the odds of them reprinting Pithing Needle when they've already printed revoker in the same block? Does anyone know of some precedence or somthing?

Nobody casts Brainstorm and it's game over. Nobody casts Unsummon and then it's game over. Utility cards complement a strategy and have diverse uses. There is only one use for Goblin Guide , so it is not a utility card.

I don't think they agree with your definition of Utility, because when they said "We won't print Utility at Mythic" Jace B had been in standard for an entire year, along with Chandra and Vess. All 3 are utility cards.
