Exactly what I was going to point out.
How incredibly appropriate. Though...I guess Batman fans might argue that Dr. Crane should be on the card...
Well if we're getting that technical, the card shouldn't be black, it should be yellow.

thats funny because my hardwired "marvel" brain went straight to black panther but i suppose the dark knight and Dr. Crane are actually much more appropriate.

I love the art for Balance.
I'm also glad they fixed it's mana cost at production -- I mean who'd play three whole mana for that effect?

Can't figure out if you are being sarcastic or not, but the mana cost didn't change... 2W in those days meant that the card cost 2, and 1 of the mana spent had to be white. As for paying 3 instead of 2 for Balance ... The card is good, it would have been played either way.

I love seeing those original playtest cards, and I really wish there was a way they could work out an arrangement with the original art rights holders to print these (with non-legal backs of course). It would make an incredible MTG collectible.

The Batman image from the Alpha Fear is illustrated by David Mazzuchelli, and is taken from the all-time classic "Batman: Year One" story arc written by Frank Miller. The arc appeared in Batman 404-407.
In my humble opinion, Year One is the finest Batman story ever released. Whosoever chose that art has a keen artistic aesthetic!!!!!

And I think it is a very appropriate image for "Fear" because it is taken from the scene where Batman announces to a group of corrupt Gotham glitterati that "From this moment on -- none of you is safe.".

Animate Artifact – Masters Edition IV uncommon. Originally, Animate Artifact could affect artifacts that were already creatures, but when it was printed in Revised, it got the sentence "Has no effect on artifact creatures" added to its rules text.
The original version said "Enchant Non-Creature Artifact".
Of course, under anything resembling the current rules, this would just cause it to fall off immediately.
