And...... (a few hours belated) I finally call the contest.  No more deck rankings will be allowed for this contest.

I'll now start on tabulating all of the individual rankings into the final ranking for the contest.

I'm both selfish and rational. I'm scheming, secretive and manipulative; I use knowledge as a tool for personal gain, and in turn obtaining more knowledge. At best, I am mysterious and stealthy; at worst, I am distrustful and opportunistic.

Before they banned the format out of existence, I was a proud supporter of Modern.

For the following, please correct me if I make a mistake.  I'm only human, after all, and there are bound to be people far better at math than myself.

Let's first gather everybody's point values together:

I have no idea why (but it seems to happen everytime I use my girlfriend's mac to edit previous posts of mine), but better than half of my deck analysese as well as my ranking were deleted from my previous post where I rank the submissions.  I'm going to chuck it up to I can't work a mac as well as a Dell.  I apologize to those of you who didn't get my full thoughts on your deck; I'll fix that post as soon as I find the time to.

Okay, so here are the base point total for each contestant:

Spoiler: Show
ArtVenn (12)
CadaverousBl00m
(20)
Capitan_Estaban
(30)
Cathaldus
(22)
Elder_Kraken
(20)
Helphelpe
(25)
Minus_Prime
(30)
SirCurry
(31)
Tich
(26)

Here is the the average score for each contestant:

Spoiler: Show
ArtVenn (2.4)
CadaverousBl00m
(4)
Capitan_Estaban
(6)
Cathaldus
(4.4)
Elder_Kraken
(3.34)
Helphelpe
(5)
Minus_Prime
(6)
SirCurry
(5.17)
Tich
(4.34)

Each contestant that submitted a ranking should get their average score added to their base point total 3 times.  Each contestant that didn't submit a ranking should have their average score added to their base point total a total of 2 times (since they wouldn't have submitted a ranking that would have included themselves).

Here is the revised point total:

Spoiler: Show
ArtVenn (19.2)
CadaverousBl00m
(34)
Capitan_Estaban
(48)
Cathaldus
(35.2)
Elder_Kraken
(26.68)
Helphelpe
(40)
Minus_Prime
(48)
SirCurry
(41.34)
Tich
(34.68)

This means that the final rankings (and point totals) are as follows:

Final Rankings Show
1) Capitan_Estaban (48) / Minus_Prime (48)
3) SirCurry (41.34)
4) Helphelpe (40)
5) Cathaldus (35.2)
6) Tich (34.68)
7) CadaverousBl00m (34)
8) Elder_Kraken (26.68)
9) ArtVenn (19.2)

Yes, we have a tie for first place!  Congratulations to Capitan_Estaban and Minus_Prime, our Beastmaster contest winnters!

I find it incredibly interesting that nobody seemed to agree on much of anything when it came to rankings.  A lot of people who were ranked really high found themselves at the bottom of a couple rankings, and vis versa.  As a result, the numbers actually averaged together really closely.

Now, nobody can see everything about a format by themselves, and sometimes things slip through the cracks that are so quick, powerful, and difficult to disrupt in a format that, by the deck's very nature, necessitate bannings in order to keep the format healthy.  This happened not just once, but twice in this contest.  It is for these reasons that I award two instances of Format Breaker to Capitan_Estaban, for his decks Affinity Tax and You Can't Cast That.

Thank you and congratulations to everybody who participated in this contest!

Continuing on from the post above...

(for those who followed from before, I did finally get back to finishing this game thread off - I've been rejigging it over the last week or two with the suggestions above, mostly because I could. It probably looks a bit different now to when you first read it, so follow it once more from about Turn 3, when Capitan now turns the game to custard for about six turns)

Turn 11 Show

ArtVenn
Capitan
Cathaldus
Elder_Kraken

Helphelpe (12)Minus_Prime
SirCurry
Tich

Rhys the Exiled
Lys Alana Scarblade

Raging Ravine
Savage Lands x4 (4 tapped)
Gaea's Cradle (tapped)
Gilt-Leaf Palace x2 (1 tapped)
Thornweald Archer x2
Bloodbraid Elf x4
Imperious Perfect x4
Elvish Archdruid x2
Elvish Champion
1 Elf token

Elder_Kraken does what he has to do at the end of Minus_Prime's turn - he's simply got to Shriekmaw something to have a chance. On any other given day, it would've been the Champion, but it has to be Ezuri in this situation - he's turning everything monstrous, and he can regenerate anything else Elder_Kraken tries to target. So Ezuri it is who bites the big one.
Now Elder_Kraken has to hope for a fortuitous top-deck. He draws, and it's... a Mulldrifter. Well, that's not going to save him. He really needed Ashling the Pilgrim and another six mana or so. Not much he can do now, other than leave the Soulstoke untapped, and see what presents itself to him before his next turn.
Helphelpe is rubbing his hands with glee now. Can he take the final two scalps and basically end the game in two turns flat? He's simply exploded now that the Magus is off the table. At the end of Elder_Kraken's turn, he makes another Elf token with the untapped Perfect, and then draws Sylvan Messenger. At this point, he just wants to be able to deal as much damage as possible. Ezuri #2 would be GG, but more Elf lords would be just fine, so he cast the Messenger to see Forest, Perfect, BBE, Archdruid. Pretty good!
He taps the Cradle for ten green mana and a Savage Lands for , dropping all three of the elves he's just picked up, and leaving floating from the Cradle. The Bloodbraid turns over Raging Ravine before he sees Perfect #4. This is just gorgeous.
He's now got a horde to attack with. Minus_Prime is his target, and he's on 22 with five blockers, so Helphelpe's going to have to send quite a bit over to seal the deal. With his lords at 7/7, and his other Elves at 8/8, he only needs to send two elves at Elder_Kraken to knock him off, so everything else is available to send at Prime.
Prime has the Thornwealds, Bloodbraids, Archdruid, Champion and Elf token heading his way - two 7/7s and seven 8/8s. He blocks five of the 8/8s, and then still takes 30 to the face, ending his life.
Elder_Kraken gets the two old Perfects heading his way, forestwalking their way to exactly 14 damage. E_K's last roll of the dice is to drop the Mulldrifter with the Soulstoke and pray that he gets something that can stop Helphelpe winning. The odds are about 0.000001%, but heck with it. He draws Primal Beyond and Flamekin Harbinger, neither of which are saving him.
Game over. Helphelpe has gone berserk in the turns since Capitan's death, and has killed every other opponent standing in the last two turns. A truly epic win. Congratulations to Helphelpe's Elf Lords deck!

Cool to see this transcription of a game.

Clearly the Magus of the Moon was a very powerful force to be reckoned with but it also drew a lot hate. But luckily that gave me all the time I needed to go over ninethousand! once it was gone.

Woot, I won, I won.

But yes, the legacy elf deck with no red or black would have been stronger.... Although BBE did work wonders.
