The main reason I suggested removing the basic land rule is that Rebecca Guay's fanclub would kill all other competion leaving magic with only Pine Barrens and Saprazzan Cove as lands.

For all of you who don't understand the Rebecca Guay issue: Rebecca Guay Wiki (read the controversy part)

But you may be right that basic lands should be part of the artist restriction. It would be sort of lame if you designed a deck with only cards from a certain artist and then deviate from that with your basic lands. It would be the same as playing a demon in an angel deck or a goblin in an elf deck.

Another format that tripped into my head over the weekend that may be fun to try... Kaleidoscope.

For those who haven't run into this (especially non-MTGOers), the rules are easy.
  • Every non-land card in your deck is multi-coloured.
  • Uses the current Extended legal list (i.e. Lorwyn forwards).
  • Split cards with more than one colour are permitted. Hybrid cards are permitted.
  • Anathemancer and Glittering Wish are banned.

Both the allowance of split cards and the banning of Glittering Wish are pointless, since none of those were printed either during or after Lorwyn (another proposed rule to the format).

I thought that Kaleidascope had something kookie going on rules wise, like Mental Magic or The Stack?

Ha, yes! I just copied the rules from the appropriate MTGO page. Nice to see they can keep these things updated well, huh?

Other than that, nope, nothing weird going on like that. Unless you're mistaking it for Momir Basic, like I tend to do (which is one wacked out format).

I thought that Kaelidoscope needed to have 1/6 of each colour.

Cathaldus, were you thinking of Rainbow/Spectial Stairwell?  Where your spells have to fit the following guidelines (translated by  me)
At least 1 white card at CMC of :1mana:.
At least 1 blue card at CMC of :1mana:.
At least 1 black card at CMC of :1mana:.
At least 1 red card at CMC of :1mana:.
At least 1 green card at CMC of :1mana:.
Repeat this process at CMC of :2mana:, :3mana:, :4mana:, :5mana: and :6mana:.  This makes for 30 specific cards in your deck.
You must also have 6 land that produce .
You must also have 6 land that produce .
You must also have 6 land that produce .
You must also have 6 land that produce .
You must also have 6 land that produce .

Or else there is Prismatic, which is 250 cards and five colours.
