I think I really overlooked how good Ratchet Bomb is against token decks. You can blow it at 0 counters, and kill all their tokens. That seems pretty nice. Also, do we think Vandal over Shatter is gonna be a good idea? Instant speed, cheaper removal...or a body at sorcery speed. What is the verdict on that?
well it does do what we want it to do, and it also adds the bonus of chump blocking, so id say it is good enough for this deck.

The Replica is an odd choice, NetherGamer, do you happen to know why your roommate opted for using it as apposed so something a little more hearty against removal?
It adds to the metalcraft for the phoenix, can beat, and if need be, bolt the opponent or their planeswalker. I agree it is strange. He's dropped it down, but i might keep it at 4, unless i see something better.
I'm collecting Drudge Skeleton/Swamp misprints. If you have any, PM me! Current count - 24

I'm not too worried about tokens, by the time the things that power them out (and in powerful bodies) come out, I should be well on my way of taking over board control. But I'll keep it in mind in case some token decks start emerging.
Vandal probably is a better option than Shatter for SB material.
It's good to see all these Big Red lists in one place, seeing different builds and hearing the strategies involved in each. They've definitely provided me with new ideas to try out in my build.
Thanks to everyone for contributing thus far. With luck by the end of Friday we can hear how these various builds fair VS the decks in the emerging meta.

as being a Red Black player, i'm glad i could help, i've tried this deck i posted and it's good, i've found that RDW can be held off until turn four with burn typically, and oonce that happens, koth hits and the game goes downhill for them from there XD

I really think this is gonna be one of the best decks in the format. Koth is just toooooo beastly, and there are lots of really solid red/colorless cards to control the board. I personally favor the Metalcraft version as Molten-Tail Masticore is far and away the best creature in the deck and it makes Galvanic Blast stupidly efficient as well. Being able to annhilate the opponent's walkers and creatures at any point throughout the game is sooooo good. Here's my list: Creatures 12
4 Kargan Dragonlord 4 Pilgrim's Eye 4 Molten-Tail Masticore 2 Steel Hellkite Spells 24
4 Everflowing Chalice 4 Lightning Bolt 4 Galvanic Blast 4 Ratchet Bomb 4 Koth of the Hammer 2 Fireball Lands 24
3 Tectonic Edge 21 Mountain Sideboard
4 Shatter 4 Pyroclasm 4 Tunnel Ignus 3 Brittle Effigy

Ok, I think we have enough perspectives and enough examples of builds to be able to put our heads together and come up with a set of guide lines for building a Big Red deck. Just off the top it looks like: Build Breakdown by Numbers: Creatures: 10 to 16 Spells: 20 to 27 Lands: 23 to 26 Staples: 4 Koth 4 Lightning Bolt Big Red Shell:
Show
Creatures (10 to 16 slots to fill): Utility Creatures: 0 to 4 slots Bomb Creatures: 10 to 16 slots
Spells (12 to 19 slots to fill): 4 Koth of the Hammer 4 Lightning Bolt Spot Removal: 0 to 8 slots Chandra Nalaar: 0 to 4 slots Everflowing Chalice: 0 to 4 slots Sweepers: 0 to 4 slots Random Tech: 0 to 6 slots
Lands (23 to 26 slots to fill): Valakut, the Molten Pinnicle: 0 to 4 slots Tectonic Edge: 0 to 4 slots Fetch Lands: 0 to 4 slots Mountain: 16 to 24 slots
Any other trends I miss? Or maybe suggested changes to card type breakdowns?

Looks like a pretty good shell overall. I think this deck will be a force which means various decklists will be within that shell but will be tailored to each player's personal preference and playstyle. I think the sweepers/spot removal will vary depending on the meta and we'll have to see what decks see extensive play before we find the right number of removal vs finishers/bombs in this deck.

Yeah, it's probably too early to start coming up with a Shell, but I wanted to get people thinking about it.

I think that Magma Phoenix is a must being that it chumps down titans and kills them than it comes back for more it whips board making grave titan a joke really. Obsidian Fireheart Is a big maybe he seems good he lights stuff on fire and above all he doesn't die when magma dies.. Precursor Golem + Kuldotha Phoenix easy metal craft. Precursor Golem + Mindbreak Trap easy way to exile spells to protect golem?
