Memnite White looks like a lot of fun!
I'm glad this was posted, I could get into something like this.

What Does an "Affliated Deck" Mean?

All non-Planeswalker cards in Scars of Mirrodin are watermarked with either a Mirran or Phyrexian symbol to represent the card’s affiliation. You can build your Game Day deck to be affiliated with one of the two sides; this makes you eligible to win theMirrodin Besieged preview cards. (Having an affiliated deck is not required for Game Day; you can play any Standard-legal deck you choose.)

An affiliated deck must have at least ten watermarked cards from its affiliated faction in its main deck, and no watermarked cards from the opposing faction in its main deck or sideboard. The deck must still be Standard-legal.

So if someone puts a myr or mindslaver from the original Mirrodin set into their phyrexian deck, will it count as affiliated?

Very cool preview cards. But it makes me wonder about the effect of the phyrexian card. Isn't this the first phyrexian card that does life point damage in this block? And the symbol looks really cool too. I wonder which symbol will remain after this war.

The set symbol for the next set looks really cool. Nice to see that they've managed to merge the Mirrodin and the Phyrexian symbols that well.

How to autocard and use decklist format  ---> Show
For autocarding, write [c][/c] with the name of the card inside it.

[c]Island[/c] = Island

For linking a card to Gatherer without writting the name of said card for readers, use the autocard brackets together with and equal sign and right the name of the real card. Then put the message you want inside the tags, like you would do with autocarding. Like this:

[c=Curse of the Cabal]Captain Never-resolves[/c] = Captain Never-resolves

For using the decklist format, follow this:
[deck]
4* Terramorphic Expanse
4* Evolving Wilds
...
[/deck]

It equals:

4 x Terramorphic Expanse
4 x Evolving Wilds
...

Oh, it's a brilliant plan.  You see, Bolas was travelling through shadowmoor, causing trouble, when he saw a Wickerbough Elder with its stylin' dead scarecrow hat.  Now, Bolas being Bolas took the awesome hat and he put it on his head, but even with all his titanic powers of magic he couldn't make it fit.  He grabbed some more scarecrows, but then a little kithkin girl asked if he was trying to build a toupee.  "BY ALL THE POWERS IN THE MULTIVERSE!" he roared, "I WILL HAVE A HAT WORTHY OF MY GLORY." and so he went through his Dark Lore of Doom (tm) looking for something he could make into a hat that would look as stylish on him as a scarecrow does on a treefolk.  He thought about the Phyrexians, but they were covered in goopy oil that would make his nonexistant hair greasy.  He Tried out angels for a while but they didn't sit quite right.  Then, he looked under "e" (because in the Elder Draconic alphabet, "e" for Eldrazi is right next to "h" for Hat) in his Dark Lore of Doom and saw depictions of the Eldrazi, and all their forms.
"THIS SHALL BE MY HAT!" he declared, poking a picture of Emrakul, "AND WITH IT I WILL USHER IN A NEW AGE OF DARKNESS -- ER, I MEAN A NEW AGE OF FASHION!"

And so Nicol Bolas masterminded the release of the Eldrazi.

When I first read about the affiliated deck thing a couple weeks ago and it was still vague, I thought the decks would require a stronger commitment than that, like 20 cards, and so that few serious players would make the effort of weakening their decks to attain it. As it stands, with a requirement of only 10 cards, I think a good number of Standard decks will be able to qualify without changing anything.

There is surprisingly little natural mixing of the two factions since very few of the Phyrexian cards are really constructed-worthy outside of the possible Infect deck. That deck is probably not very good with only one set out anyway, but for someone willing to try it, it would easily qualify as Phyrexian. I don't think it would really need any Mirran cards, except maybe for the sideboard, where having to pass on Ratchet Bomb and good Mirran black cards like Memoricide or Nihil Spellbomb might hurt a little.

As for the numerous non-infect decks that would qualify as Mirran, I only see three Phyrexian cards that some might want to play : Skinrender , Wurmcoil Engine , and Contagion Clasp . All the other relevant SoM cards except for planeswalkers and basic lands are Miran-marked, even the dual lands, so any deck that doesn't need one of those Phyrexian cards and that plays some number of SoM cards is de facto Mirran or very nearly so. My current deck, a UB Control build, has already nine Mirran cards and no Phyrexian ones. It has four of the new dual land and three Trinket Mage , with two of the Mage targets being Mirran artifacts (Nihil Spellbomb and Chimeric Mass ). I could easily add a fourth Mage or a Grasp of Darkness , which I was considering anyway.

But, with all that said, let's be realistic : few people are gonna go out of their way to affiliate their deck, because if those two Mirrodin Besieged uncommons are all you get for your trouble, it's just not worth it. It's obvious that these are hardly constructed playable. Maybe recurring Pierce Strider with something like Master Transmuter could be interesting in casual, but it's nothing tournament-relevant.

I'm not even sure the Game Day tournament organizers are gonna distribute the preview promos in the indented way, anyway : depending on supplies, they might just give some to everyone and not bother with it.

They're only getting 4: 2 Mirran and 2 Phyrexian. The Mirran ones should be easy enough to give away; I'm sure at least two decks will qualify as Mirran-affiliated randomly (unless they're all running promo Wurmcoil Engines or something). The Phyrexian ones will be hindered by potentially eligible decks not being able to use a little less than 80% of the new set, including the new dual lands that are Mirran watermarked for some stupid reason.

Oh right, I should have got that : if you're Mirran, you get the worst of the two promos Tongue out. As I said, it seems pretty much only the Infect deck could qualify as Phyrexian; I don't see an other kind of deck having both enough Phyrexian cards and passing on almost all other SoM cards while still being strong and interesting.

Flavor wise, I think the blue-black dual land, which happens to be 20% of the cycle, should have been Phyrexian marked. The Darkslick Shores are supposed to be the shores of the Quicksilver Sea that are infected with phyrexian oil.
