Very interesting.  It looks like there may have been something between Ajani and Elspeth at one point.

Now we know how Elspeth gets her sword back and knows how Phyrexia is on Mirrodin.  Interesting choice by Koth to brand himself with Phyrexia's mark.  He certainly put himself at risk with that one.

I thought the writing was pretty good, nothing too ridiculous.  The illustration didn't quite work for me though.
Spoiler: Show

Thanks Gamma_Mage for the awesome banner!

I thought Elspeth got "kicked" by Nicol Bolas in the battle over Alara.... Planeswalking is like "7 degrees" where you have to know somebody or something that's been to a plane to get there.  Usually that means at least decades to get back from some obscure plane from Nicol's dusty memory.  Good to see Venser get some play too, he's been around since Time Spiral and all we got was a Sliver from him. Sounds like Elsepeth may have been around during the events of "Time Spiral" to know what Phyrexians are an how to fight them (and I was hoping she was from Ulgrotha and had a famous mom)

Excellent comic this week; Jenna does good work with Elspeth, as we already knew.  Koth is also interesting - a red mage who doesn't take the first excuse he gets to hit something with his hammer.  I'm liking where this is going.

As far as the benefit of the rest of Magic is concerned, gold cards in Legends were executed perfectly. They got all the excitement a designer could hope out of a splashy new mechanic without using up any of the valuable design space. Truly amazing.

Much better than I was expecting, though still a little on the goofy side.

One thing that really sticks out is using a computer generated font in the speech balloons. I supposed that's for easier translation for worldwide distribution, but it still makes it look cheap.

Some of those expressions are terrible. And the dialogue is still stilted and boring. Though I did read through the whole thing, so it is an improvement over the previous ones.

They become friends in Alara Unbroken (which I don't recommend).

This comic was okay.  Given its length, it had a lot of good background info.  It didn't really have room for a story though.

I agree with Ajani -- Elspeth's hopelessness is a bit over the top.  I wish they had taken a little bit different angle with it.  It's hard to feel sympathy for a heroine with so little loyalty and so little confidence in herself and her loved ones.  I'm willing to be Bant's still a better place to live than Urborg.

I wish they would use a different format for these comics.  I have pretty large monitor and I still have to scroll every page, which is annoying considering it takes about 10 seconds to read a page.  I guess if they plan to keep publishing them in paper eventually that they will stick with this aspect ratio though.

I liked Alara Unbroken. You gotta admit that part at the end when Rafiq kills Malfegor was pretty epic. Though I didn't like how the black aligned necromancers seened to have some sort of disenchant ability. My only real complaint was that they stuffed the whole story into one book. It could have been spread out over afew and been much better.

Yeah I agree with that too. Come on Elspeth! Show some courage and conviction like we'd all expect of a knight of Bant!

Though I'm kinda wondering why Koth and Elspeth are both found participating in gladiatorial combat. I wouldn't expect her to really have any respect for bloodsports. Though I guess ya gotta do somthing to put food on the table and we know she's a good swordfighter. I wonder why Koth is there as a gladiator? If he's out on a mission for his people it would seem like a distraction from it.

A-HEM!  Spoilers!....

Well I completely agree, but I think they were rather looking to cut back on the novels, since that's a tough business even for companies that do nothing else.  I just think it's a shame that the switch to single novels had to come during the exact block where there were five times as many stories to tell as normal.

Yeah I agree with that too. Come on Elspeth! Show some courage and conviction like we'd all expect of a knight of Bant!

Considering how clingy to the tranquility and perfect order of Bant she was, I'd say that her confidence has been shattered entirely by its subsequent unpleasantness; she's back to being the scared little girl who planeswalked by accident because she was terrified of Phyrexians.
