No ability or effect is overpowered, all that matters is whether it is costed correctly.

An argument could be made that it changes the flavour of the game however.

I have written several guides to help new DoTP players here, move to the first post to start reading. They are also in Wordpress format here. The principles involved should still be useful for Duels 2013!

Find other DoTP players - a database of friendly players, find a match or post your name here to be added to the list! I'll add a D13 section if anyone would like.

Ask a rules question - ask anything about DoTP, Magic in general, or to check out if you've found a bug by asking if the rules are being followed.

I have seen how Contagion Clasp in the Tez vs Elspeth deck made the artifact deck become IMO a joke that every turn counters were put on far too many card and was just a distraction and made me disintrested in following everything my opponent was doing.

I managed to win the game but it felt like I was playing a card game and my opponent was playing a game involving distributing lots of counters.

Due to this rule I have decided not to buy a single card from this expansion and also leaving the game for good as it ruins the dynamics of the plainswalkers as you can get them to ultamate a lot quicker while still boosting oher stuff on the way.

Contagion clasp would only not be broken in my opinion is if the creature that is is put on once it is destroyed the clasp also is removed from play.

Dredge cards are still insane even without a mana cost.

Winning is not important if:

what?

do you ceremonially light your deck on fire after a win?

I don't think there are any cards like that.

There are things that prevent you from activating activated abilities, things that increase their cost, and things that counter them, but I don't think anything triggers from them specifically.

There are things that trigger from targeting, so that might be relevant, but I can't think of anything that triggers from targeting a player.

I'm almost positive there's nothing that triggers from damage being prevented.

Would Stinkweed Imp be played at ? Maybe.
What if it only cost one card to dredge back? Unlikely.

Dredge may not technically have a cost in the rules sense, but there are other costs besides mana costs.

Sure, by cost I meant in the general sense, not just mana cost. I meant the overall difficulty of using the card/ability taking everything into account.

And there you have it. Preconstructed decks are very casual, and are often imbalanced. I remember distinctly having an evening of games with a mate using the Chandra Vs Jace ones, and it was ridiculous how strong the Jace deck is compared to the Chandra one. That doesn't mean that any one card in that deck is overpowered or ridiculous; it just means that deck tends to run better than the other.

In my own testing, I've won about half my games using a UW control deck with 2 to 3 Contagion Engines, and the same with a red control deck using 2 Engines and Koth to Slaverlock. With just planeswalkers it isn't broken. Similarly, you'd need a lot of counters to make it broken with creatures (having said that, it'll be quite strong in artifact builds next to Steel Overseer , or weenie builds next to Ajani Goldmane ). Right now, the biggest impact I see it having is with poison, as it's definitely the hardest counter to get rid of ( Leeches anyone?), and infect is going to make them much easier to apply in the first place.

Powerful? Yes. Broken? Probably not, but we'll see soon enough.

I'm all about super-control in MTG. If you're able to stop my shenanigans, then there aren't enough shenanigans.

As the other player, I must say it is nice to be vindicated. Although the answer was never really in question (it was just a case of "RTC" ).

That makes no sense to me.

If they spelled the ability out on the card in full then it would not be allowed in a mono-black Commander deck, but because they used a keyword to save space it is allowed?

Yup, just like you can have Birds of paradise in a mono green deck but not Noble Hierarch . YAY COLOR IDENTITY

I love this description. Like the cows are sponges filled with milk. I can see it all Nick Parks claymation-style with the cow's eyes bugging out momentarily as a giant farmer squeezes it like a squeaky dog toy, and milk shoots out of it.

That's abit rough man I do worry about how much stronger plainswalkers will be with it and favoring Blue/White plainswalker heavy decks....But you should atleast wait and see before leaving the game..
