The original myr were way better. They are supposed to be the most basic myr out there, yet they've now received intricate designs that look like Esper Filigree. I don't like it at all, and the positions the myr are in are very confusing. The new silver myr looks like a ridiculous dancing robot.

How to autocard and use decklist format  ---> Show
For autocarding, write [c][/c] with the name of the card inside it.

[c]Island[/c] = Island

For linking a card to Gatherer without writting the name of said card for readers, use the autocard brackets together with and equal sign and right the name of the real card. Then put the message you want inside the tags, like you would do with autocarding. Like this:

[c=Curse of the Cabal]Captain Never-resolves[/c] = Captain Never-resolves

For using the decklist format, follow this:
[deck]
4* Terramorphic Expanse
4* Evolving Wilds
...
[/deck]

It equals:

4 x Terramorphic Expanse
4 x Evolving Wilds
...

I like storm crow because I really like crows in real life, as an animal, and the card isn't terribly stupid, but packs a good deal of nostalgia and also a chunck of the game's history. So it's perhaps one of the cards I have most affection to, but not because "lol storm crow is bad hurr hurr durr".

Oh, it's a brilliant plan.  You see, Bolas was travelling through shadowmoor, causing trouble, when he saw a Wickerbough Elder with its stylin' dead scarecrow hat.  Now, Bolas being Bolas took the awesome hat and he put it on his head, but even with all his titanic powers of magic he couldn't make it fit.  He grabbed some more scarecrows, but then a little kithkin girl asked if he was trying to build a toupee.  "BY ALL THE POWERS IN THE MULTIVERSE!" he roared, "I WILL HAVE A HAT WORTHY OF MY GLORY." and so he went through his Dark Lore of Doom (tm) looking for something he could make into a hat that would look as stylish on him as a scarecrow does on a treefolk.  He thought about the Phyrexians, but they were covered in goopy oil that would make his nonexistant hair greasy.  He Tried out angels for a while but they didn't sit quite right.  Then, he looked under "e" (because in the Elder Draconic alphabet, "e" for Eldrazi is right next to "h" for Hat) in his Dark Lore of Doom and saw depictions of the Eldrazi, and all their forms.
"THIS SHALL BE MY HAT!" he declared, poking a picture of Emrakul, "AND WITH IT I WILL USHER IN A NEW AGE OF DARKNESS -- ER, I MEAN A NEW AGE OF FASHION!"

And so Nicol Bolas masterminded the release of the Eldrazi.

Yeah, I gotta say that the old mana Myrs' art was clean and iconic, whereas the new pieces are difficult to read and rather poorly-composed.  Oh well, I guess they can't hit them out of the park every time, right?

I'm with you on this one.

The old Myr art was understated and classy. For the most part, the only indication of color came from the glowing rings on the Myr, who all looked nigh-indistinguishable. The art reflected everything you needed to know about the mana Myr-- they were a tribe, they were artifact creatures, and they had something to do with color (in this case, that they tapped for colored mana).

I find the new art far less communicative. To begin with, every piece of new art has a heavily-saturated color scheme. It's pretty to look at, and Alan Pollack has demonstrated he knows how to play with color, but I don't think that it fits the primarily colorless Myr at all. The new designs for the Myr are difficult to read-- you could clearly find a Myr's figure in the old art, but in the new, the Myr are in such bizarre poses and their structures have been embellished so much that it's hard to even see a figure, let alone a Myr figure. (Without the card names, I would never have guessed that the new Silver and Iron Myrs were actually Myr.) This is especially puzzling since almost all of the other Myr that have been spoiled have retained all of the iconic Myr elements-- the ring of light at the back of the head, the small eyes, the distinctively beaked head. Doug Beyer's recent article, "Myr Thee Well," demonstrates this. And as you mentioned, the composition is rather shoddy; most of the new pieces seem cluttered and distracting, where the older artwork was clean, distinctly drawing focus to the subject while leaving the background unobtrusive.

Alan Pollack has contributed some excellent art to the game-- for instance, Sudden Spoiling -- but these new Myr are far from his best work.

(Yeah, I'm posting a critique of art for a fantasy trading card game on an internet forum. I realize how far into the depths of nerd-dom that takes me.)

Yeah, all the new myr art looks like what Michael Bay did to the Transformers, which is why I have yet to even try to watch those cinematic travesties.

If anyone is interested in the early playtest cards as mentioned on the arcana page I'm posting a link to some that I have that my son gave me.

Would have been interesting if some of these had made it into the sets.

Actually, nearly all of those eventually appeared as actual cards, more or less.
Magical Heist = Energy Tap
Necromancer = ???
Shaman = Balduvian Shaman
The rest appeared with the exact name.

Awesome, Gary!

Although I am failing miserably in seeing exactly what Magical Heist is doing and how it works. Or does it no longer work in today's rules framework?

At least I finally understand the art on some of the SoM tokens that I didn't understand before.

The Golem Token, although can be produced by Precursor Golem , is actually representative of the token produced by Golem Foundry .

The Myr token looks like the one produced by Myr Propagator .  My only problem with that is that it needs to have the card text "3, T :Put a token that's a copy of Myr Propagator onto the battlefield" and create a more generic Myr token for the other cards.
