A fine goal to be sure, but I just want to make absolutey certain that everyone understands just how sson 10th Edition and Time Spiral block rotate out - 1st October 2010. This new Extended format, with those sets, will exist for exactly 92 days. So I am a little concerned that you say you want to help everyone fine-tune their decks "for the coming Extended season", but then go on to mention in your posts the following cards, all of which will not be legal in the coming Extended season:

Magus of the Moon
Keldon Marauders
Tarmogoyf
Story Circle
Grove of the Burnwillows
Karplusan Forest
Brushland
Horizon Canopy
Treetop Village
Mystical Teachings

Basically, only those attending Pro-Tour Amsterdam will be playing this format while 10th and TSP are legal - if your local situation is such that you are going to play a ton of Extended between July 1st and September 30th then that's fine, good for you - but I just worry that it's slightly misleading to suggest that Magus of the Moon, Tarmogoyf and company will be relevant to "the coming Extended season".

Again, I stress that if you do plan to play a lot of Extended in the 92 days this format will exist then that's fine, I just don't want anyone to be confused and go out to buy Damnations, Ancestral Visions, Teferis, Dralnus, Extirpates, Akromas, Wraths, etc, that will have a shelf life of just 12 weeks.

Anyway, I must also address the person who, earlier in this thread, put Repeal in his Faeries list- that's Ravnica block, you won't even be able to play with that between July and September!

To be perfectly honest, I was kind of relying on everyone on the Extended forums (and mostly everywhere else) being excited enough about this new format to play it a lot over the next couple of months regardless of a number of cards rotating soon. I know that I, for one, won't be investing in playsets of Magus of the Moon or Tarmogoyfs, but if there's a tournament nearby, I'll probably be able to borrow most of the cards I need - and even if, for some reason, I can't borrow any cards, I want to know the projected metagame well enough that I can make something potent out of what I've got.

As for rotation, I personally think that Scars of Mirrodin is a bit too far away to start discussing a post-rotation metagame. If it's relevant, however, I don't expect people to shy away from speculating about any known info about unreleased sets here - including spoiled cards from M11... just put spoiler tags around them or something, people. You know the drill.

well since some of use did play extended before the change (i kinda just started with a zoo deck i was able to pick up just to have something) some of use have the goyfs, magus, etc. Also there are some shops were the old extended was vary well played even more then standard. So i think it is a good idea to get ideas for decks with time spiral in it as this will be one of the best times for extended i think.

Also not sure how well Fae will be with all the hate cards from the newer sets and such, like BBE-> Fallout is insnae or vengvine coming back all the time is sweet. Also zoo is still alive and seems to be testing well.

Also any one have a list for swans? i am interested in it.
Started to write 2 articles a week on getting ready for GP Toronto were i will be talking about getting ready for sealed. The first one is up so go check it out on PMP post.

Umm.. werent the pain lands in tenth?

I agree though, cards need to be found to replace those in current decks, or new deck types to be developed.

First, on mass removal: Fae didn't carry mass removal. Fae/Teachings does, because it's really a hybrid deck. It can attack in multiple ways, and Mass Removal doesn't hurt it nearly as much.
Second, we can't hypothesize about post-scars, and this will help us figure out strong strategies, understand how the format ticks. It won't change with rotations as much as Standard does, so this will give us an idea of what the format will be like.

Mana Leak is back.

Don't leave home without your Stags.
If Limited gets in the way of printing good Constructed cards...

I was really looking forward to seeing how Faeries operated with limited Counterspell options...figured maybe people could play around it...and now it's back to Fae vs The World...and The World loses.

yep. go ahead and lock the thread and forget about extended for four years. Wizards decided that they needed to kill the new format before it starts. Fae will be the only deck played thanks to the reprinting of mana leak.

I'm going to try it out, but my gut says that Fae will rule until Rosewater and company bring down the ban hammer after realizing that cryptic command, Mana leak, broken ambitions, spellstutter sprite, mistbind clique, bitterblossom, and Jace 2.0 can't exist in the same extended environment.

though for those that do plan on trying to play it, i'd buy your reflecting pools now before they go up in price. With the rotation of the shocks, the reflecting pool manabase is as consistent as you can get.

Hmm. After Time Spiral goes, we lose Tarmogoyf, Grove/Punishing, the entire mystical teachings plan, and a lot of hugely important cards in every archetype. It all depends on scars.
Izgor, do you think you could test it?

I don't have a group that I could test with. Also, I'm not the best tester in the world. I tend to get distracted.

Anyways, does anyone have any ideas for good silver bullets for a teachings deck. The only things I can think of are Sudden Death , Venser, Shaper Savant and Pact of Negation . I don't even think that is a very good list of them either.

Also, some neat stuff that you can use in more color intensive decks are things like fetch lands into the shadowmoore special lands (e.g. Leechridden Swamp or, well, that is the only good one) and they also power the m2010/2011 dual lands.

edit: Also, maybe Sonic Boom is worth testing. There are a lot of counters and a load of new, quasi-efficient draw spells alongside Jace, of course, in the set.

Of course I'm sure I've gone mad. The little man who crawled out of my eye was quite clear on this.

Are we sure Mana Leak is back? what's the source?
On the subject of Silver bullets, most of the Fae/Teachings decks only run 1 Scion of Oona, for tutoring via Mystical Teachings. You could also cut the number of Mistbind Cliques there. Otherwise, try Consume the Meek.
What is Sonic Boom?
