I wonder if we're getting a new Liliana in the next core set. They keep using her for stories, but haven't updated her yet. Personally, I think she might make a switch to white, or she will be like "lord windgrace" or "sorin" and be a "good" black mana user. She seems to be "black" only to save her friends or herself, rather than really "evil". I also liked the name dropping of potential new cards they did.. it was clever.

This was terrible. Truly one of he worst comics to date, possibly the worst.
On the art: Look at the bottom right corner on the second page, right when Liliana finds out her brother is back. There are tons of crass jokes I could make about that face. All I'm going to say that is that I have never seen a human being express sadness, nor any other emotion, with a face anything remotely similar to that. Most of the rest of the comic isn't as bad, but there is at least one picture on each page, typically a close up of a face, that is laughably terrible
On the dialogue: The dialogue is frequently mocked in these comments, and this comic is no better or worse than many of the others. It suffers from using dialogue that the speaker wouldn't normally say as an expository device, such as Liliana saying, "You frightened me!" when the creepy raven guy showed up.
On the plot: Speaking of the creepy raven guy, the whole plot of this thing is ridiculous. First of all, if your choice is to listen to the woman who has apparently been taking care of you for some time versus listening the guy in the woods with red eyes who can turn into a flock of birds, who the hell chooses the bird man? Especially when your brother's life is at stake. Also, that woman's disciplinary philosophy is questionable at best. Gee, your father was really strict, but I'm not so strict, and you seem to be kind of a whiny brat because of it. What should I do? I know! Send you into the middle of the forest that is crawling with enemies and evil raven-man hybrids in order for you to find the only thing that can cure your brother. And I won't bother sending back up or maybe a trained professional to help complete this seemingly important task. Oh, and your brother is the heir to the throne. No biggie. For me, the biggest plot hole was when she gave her brother the zombie medicine. Did she not have to check with anyone to see if that was OK? Does he not have some kind of security? Was it really that hard, once someone noticed that she came back with zombie medicine instead of esis root, to maybe knock it out of your hand or ask, "Hey, do you have any idea what you're doing?" The war is apparently so fierce that the the castle has had to dedicate every soldier and medic to the line of duty. Oh, and everyone with half a brain.
I hope the next one's better. Sorry for the harsh review, but this comic was a sharp decline in quality compared to the steady increase we've been experiencing.

she does turn into a dark-mage obsessed with finding powerful artifacts.... she seems like such a nice kid in this strip. If she would have picked the flowers, she would have been a pretty little green forest lover (and daddy would punish her for showing up in Rebbecca Guay art). Like you pointed out, it's the fault of all the bad parenting.
She did make her first zombie though.. that's a good start for any lich!

This cartoon seems to be below par, in terms of quality, with the other ones. Looking closer at the drawings, though, reveals that a lot of time really went into this - so it's propably a matter of taste for style. Liliana Vess ; well, I've read the novels in which she appears, and as a character, she never really acted that "black". She's not exactly an Elpeth, but neither is she truly evil. This story makes her appear somewhat naive... actually, very naive. But then again, later on in her life, she made pacts with demons - talking about being naive. I find the story itself quite disappointing - I expected to see more of the Zendikar-Eldrazi-war, as none of the novels describes this war. The cards have plenty of flavortexts that makes one want to know more about what happens; fx.: Some humans willingly offered up their blood, hoping it would grant the vampire families the strength to stave off the Eldrazi.
--> flavor text for Bloodthrone Vampire . This cartoon story doesn't really make the cut to really give a better view of Liliana's character and personality either. Well, that's just my opinion.

Wow. Just terrible. The plot, dialog, and pacing of the comic are ridiculously juvenile, and the cheesy pin-up art style is straight out of a late-80's low-budget indie comic. Next time, write us a tale that actually shows the characters with a little personality.

I think the art got better as the comic went along, which is good news for the artist!
While it wasn't as good as the others, none of them have been great so I can't say I'm as disappointed as the above posters.
Also, "drag the corpses behind the horses" made me laugh out loud.

If they put a fraction of the design and development work into the comic that they do into the cards, they might achieve a happier outcome. As it is, I find it hard to imagine how this comic serves the end of getting people to buy more cards. Among its other faults, it's too short (which is reminiscent of the restaurant patron who complains that the food is terrible and the portions are too small, but still) - it feels as if we're watching frames extracted from a movie every fifteen minutes rather than a coherent, naturally flowing story.

I don't have a problem with the art, personally. It's a little different, but the artist chose a style and ran with it, and I think they did a great job.
The writing was awful, naturally. But, then again, Journey to the Eye, part 1 was the only comic where I actually enjoyed the writing.
Maybe they could actually hire some writers for the comics since they're planning on releasing fewer books every year.
