Wow, I got mentioned! Awesome. I'm Nick W., and I was the Jaya player. It was an awesome tournement.
I felt that the democratic victory went a long way towards keeping the combo down. Only people who were playing well/fun won. To wit, I only won 1 of 4 games (The one mentioned in the article, in which I won all the DV points.) However, I was able to pick up enough DV points in the rest of the rounds to make fourth.

Oh, and in a slight nitpick, it was a print of Vampire Hexmage, not nighthawk. Still cool, though.
