I think we're on the same side here, we don't like smelling the B.O. when we play them either. We just don't get hit on...usually.

It's especially disgusting when men who game go on to lament how few of us there are.
It's not that there are few women, (Look at Ren Fairs, there are tons of women.) but rather, the typical gamer "guy" wishes there were more gorgeous women who like fantasy and want them to have a common interest for them to talk about.
I could be the only one, but never do I lament about not having gorgeous women that enjoy the same things that I enjoy.
Sure, I enjoy Magic, but that's something that I do. Just like my girlfriend has things that she does that I don't particularly care for.
I think that people can share things, and not share things. I in no way, shape, or form want a relationship based on having a cardboard based game about goblins and dragons fighting each other in "fantasy land" as the cornerstone of the relationship.
If I do meet a chick that plays Magic, that's all fine and good, but if there's nothing else but sex and cardboard that we can relate to, it just ain't gonna last.
No matter how "gorgeous" she may be.

That makes a lot of sense, of course.... but I also have to say I scratch my head at some of the guys in my gaming group who talk about how their girlfriends and wives "just don't understand" their gaming stuff. It makes me kind of sad to hear about that. If my partner had a major interest I didn't feel I could share with them in any way at all, I'd feel awkward.

I don't find the idea that some people daydream about meeting what they consider the perfect geek insulting or odd, even when that involves a pile of characteristics that are highly unlikely to co-occur all at once. I'd be a hypocrite if I dissed people for that. I do it myself! :-)
I just find it weird when guys seem to really cherish the fantasy of a nerdy girlfriend who understands their interests, but also have weird stereotypes in their heads about women being bad at games. It's just... hey, if this is something you want, why act in ways that would only make us avoid you if we ever met you at all?

I guess that's what makes me different. I like Magic, but I can't say it's one of my Major InterestsTM.
I do a lot of things other than play Magic, and Magic is by far the only thing that I do that is "fantasy" related. Also, the fanstasy aspect of Magic is not at all why I play. I like the numbers part of the game, and the strategy, and the chance to win at something. That's pretty much it.
I don't like Fantasy games in general, nor do I like fantasy novels, or MMORPGs, or anything else along those lines. To me, Magic is like a numbers game that so happened to have flavor text and a story behind it.
I do play video games, but it's not for the adventure, or the story. It's so that I can have something to beat when no one else is around for me to attempt to beat. One of my favorite games I've beaten is Tales of Symphonia, which was quite a lengthy RPG. But I haven't a clue what the story was, as I just wanted to beat it.
So I guess I don't mind not having a significant other with no interest in Magic because it's not a major interest of mine compared to the many other things I do, and because to anyone that I'm involved with it's just another thing that Karl is trying to win at, just like Uno, Backgammon, or Mahjongg.
