Well, the dragon is his steed. Do you have your horse pick up your sword and fight your opponent, or do you ride on the thing for speed and mobility.
If you do force your horse to pick up swords and slay your enemies, I invite you to meed my friends at PETA...
From a purely flavor perspective, the dragon with it's massive body and fiery breath is what's doing the heavy lifting in this scenario... I mean, it's not like he uses the dragon to fly up to BSA and hop off on her back (sword in hand). That being said, BSA v Dragon... BSA should win.
In other news: Because of Survival Cache , it looks like Boros Bushwhacker could possibly survive post rotation with that card being the main deck take-over of the Ranger of Eos spot. It's a BIG may... but a may, none the less.
My flavor interpretation is that the Dragon Lord is a Warrior who gets up one day and thinks "It would be really great if I had a dragon" Then he looks for a little while, and finds a fledgling dragon, and together they become a 4/4 flying force. Then later, the dragon grows up to full size and is able to breath fire. But the types listed for levelers are what they start out as, not what they become. I think the BSA would be very miffed to find out the Dragon Fire works on her now, because there is a little man riding on the dragon's back.
The only possible answer is that he knows magic.... that's gotta be it! He got some sword or whatever...

But the art on Kargan Dragonlord clearly has him riding a Dragon. This is worse than finding out the Sovereigns of Lost Alara weren't flying during an Alara draft. They are clearly pictured as three cloud creatures...

Well, if Wizards had just had the balls to reprint Akroma instead of neutering her and bathing her in solid gold, we wouldn't have this problem.
I HATE Walletslayer, and I even run white.

its one reason to hate a card because of some inherent flaw, but not because its too expensive (money-wise) to run. don't blame baneslayer, blame wizards and the brilliant idea that is "mythic rarity".
thats the reason top rares in standard went from ~$20 to ~$50.
...just reminds us that WotC is, in fact, a business first and foremost...

Speaking of this fact... did you see the rares from ROE? Ugh... most of them are totally limited only cards. The set is like anti-money.
I made a list of everything I want from the set... right on down to the 25 cent rares, and the list fits on a single page, and most of it's mythic.
Linvala is a sideboard card (an epic sideboard card, but a sideboard card) All Is Dust is just a better, colorless Planar Cleansing . Gideon Jura is just nuts. Cast Through Time has a possible niche in Grixis control. (Rebound + Cruel Ultimatum ) Thankfully, it's not money though. Kargan Dragonlord looks good for Boros adaptations or red inclusive control. Khalni Hydra makes green mages salivate. Vengevine is just good for early hype, and comboing with Momentous Fall. Sarkhan The Mad is a nice fit for Jund.
Then there are the three Eldrazi legends... really? really?

i'm starting to seriously doubt the potential of mirroden 2.0.... like i'm thinking its just going to really suck. there are several who will blindly enjoy it while a certain few realize what it will be.
a continuation of crappy, poor design

To be fair, ROE is great in limited... it's just not the most most impactful we have had recently in standard.

Most of the money rares from this set are in green. Vengevine, Realms Uncharted, Momentus Fall, Mul Daya, etc.
