I admittedly am new to Magic, but what spoiled cards so far let you get four tokens by turn three? Or is he referring to cards we don't know about yet?

I have no idea.
But still, a 7/7 Annihilator 1 on turn four or five, for mostly free, is a pretty good deal - especially when the stuff that spawned all of those tokens is probably still around.
Function reprint of an Exodus Common. I'd guess "Nausea". 1B Sorcery: All creatures get -1/-1 until end of turn
Distinctly possible, but I think a more interesting choice would be Fade Away . In either case, though, I don't know why they'd need to change the name. Granted, Eldrazi Spawn are more likely to cause nausea than to suffer from it, but still, it would have been a fine reprint, sans the "functional" part which can only mean that the name was changed.
As far as the benefit of the rest of Magic is concerned, gold cards in Legends were executed perfectly. They got all the excitement a designer could hope out of a splashy new mechanic without using up any of the valuable design space. Truly amazing. --Aaron Forsythe's Random Card Comment on Kei Takahashi
Fade Away is my guess. I thought the original flavor was tied to the shadow rift, so a more relevant name would be appropriate here.

I wanted to correct myself. I said that this was Matt Place's third time lead developing a set. It is actually his fourth. I forgot Dissension which was Matt's first time as a set lead.
Matt sure worked on a lot of gold sets.
Thanks for reading, Mike

Pawn of Ulamog has the potential to make 4 spawn tokens on turn 3.
