its just stupid aggro, like shards had a lot more thought process involved in it. it also had some removal spells printed. i mean seriously, back a few months ago, we had a ptq bye thingy as sealed deck. they top 8 players all had black in their decks, including at least 4 vampire nighthawks, 2 sorins... and removal spells. meanwhile, i had a crappy red/green aggro deck that couldn't do crap against the hordes of removal from black, or the aggressiveness of R/x decks. harrow is great and all, but when its your best card, you have a problem. its just a mindless, unfun limited format. i feel like there isn't a lot of diversity, whereas in shards, i drafted a million different strategies and won with all different kinds of decks. most reports indicate the top players got lucky with red/black or some strong combination of the above colors.
i'm just saying zendikar limited is pretty unbalanced where shards felt a little better
so like i'd said before, if worldwake is a crappy set, then i'm quitting, because its not worth the time or money anymore.
LOLOL. I have drafted, and won, with each color in Zendikar (yes, that included Blue, in fact, I've forced concessions with timely Spell Pierce/Cancels). Zen is a very nice limited format IMO. How could it not? Kicker!

I dislike Standard atm also. It's not just that it's solved, although I think that's part of it, the fact that it was solved so easily because the best cards and strategies are so obvious, rather than having more tricky stuff and more balanced stuff like we did in Rav/TSP (and I think it helped that the card pool was bigger back then).
But a lot of the decks right now are just putting all the best cards together in a deck. The only strategy involved are really simple ideas, like the idea that control decks need card drawing spells, or the mono red decks which ignore everything and just try to deal damage, or the synergy between Knight and Landfall. We don't have too many oddball decks using things like Poison Slivers, The Rack, combo decks like Dragonstorm, control decks that optimize for the mirror like Teachings, and so on. And the few oddball decks we do have are particularly un fun to play against - we have the Howling Mine decks (mostly Turbofog) and we have the mana denial decks with Spreading Seas.
Half the decks today look like a beginner made them. Eldrazi Green - a bunch of token producers and pump effects. Cruel Control - someone wanted to use big spells like Cruel Ultimatum and their more experienced friend told them to add in a bit of cheap removal to survive the early game. Mono red - all the cards that do the most damage for the least mana.
Man I totally agree with everything said, especially the last paragraph. I still like to build standard decks because it's fairly easy to build something tier 2 and have fun that way, but extended is just so much funner right now for the simple fact that it takes some real deck building skills to deal with the tier one decks over there. Seriously those things are just insanely powerful. Ramp decks that peak on turn 3, combo decks that win on turn 4, aggro that consistently deals over 20 damage by turn 3, real counterspells and control. If you really want to try and build something powerful play extended.
The fact that it was solved so easily seems indicative of Zen being somewhat incosiquential because Jund added nothing but goblin ruinblaster and a fetch land and it's the top deck in the format. It's more like we just lost a set of cards than really having added anything.

ZEN is an absolutely awful draft format.
In fact it's possibly the worst I've ever drafted.

Stfu! stop whinning about how standard sucks this forum is full of people who just whine all the damn time, mabe instead of whinning do somthing abou it. Standard isnt that bad, Jund isnt the boogieman. mabe you should stop net decking and try to come up with somthing orginal, that always helps when you feel stale. standard is kinda lame but that doesnt meen its boring. now go make a new deck, and go have fun

That's not how magic works. You can't just build somethign new and better. There are limited cards in the pool, and due to some awful design over the last year, there is a single deck that significantly more powerful than the rest of the format. The best you can do is metagaming agaisnt certain decks, but it doesn't leave you with much in the way of options for successful builds.

i've made new decks ^&*(, but they got old. i'm not afraid of fu( |{ing jund, jund is too easy to beat right now. its a compilation of ALLLLLLLLLLL, the decks.
so like i said, get out, i'll damn well complain if i want to... cuz i'm sick of wizards catering to crappy players and their stupid aggro and lame decks... i'd shoot myself if i had to play any spreading seas control deck... what a god awful piece of crap that is.
come on worldwake, don't suck
Blue is the best color ever. How do you deal? I'm fairly sure Worldwake won't provide you with what you're looking for.
Time to quit Magic I guess ?

you said you realized RWU was not really the style you want to play, could you elaborate?

Yeah well what did you expect with a mono-color set that puts 2-3 color symbols on anything resembling a bomb...
This is super long-term, but I really can't wait for the standard to shift into ZEN-M11-Scars of Mirrodin. A "land matters" set paired with sexy artifacts is a solid theoreticl base for a good meta.
Hell, artifacts or color-lite cards need to start appearing in the zendikar block.

Scars of Mirrodin? We talking about 'Shake' block? Or Rise of the Eldrazi?
