The main benefits of Spikeshot Elder that I see are: - His ability doesn't cause him to tap. This means that you can use it even when he's already tapped, attack AND use his ability, and use his ability more than once per turn if you have the mana. - He doesn't run out of juice when your graveyard is empty, like Grim Lavamancer does. - His ability becomes more powerful with Battle Cry, as it's based on his power. Swing with Spikeshot Elder and Hero of Oxid Ridge (which RDW runs) or Goblin Wardriver (which Goblin decks run), and your same does 2 damage instead of 1 - deal some extra damage to your opponent, or kill / damage a potential blocker in advance.

Perilous is a good idea, I ran them when Kor Firewalkers were still in standard, but I'd prefer not to keep 6-8 cards in my SB just for mirror matches (Of course this depends on your local group).

3 x Chandra's Phoenix 2 x Grim Lavamancer 2 x Hero of Oxid Ridge 4 x Reckless Waif 3 x Spikeshot Elder 4 x Stormblood Berserker 2 x Stromkirk Noble 2 x Arc Trail 4 x Brimstone Volley 2 x Geistflame 3 x Incinerate 2 x Koth of the Hammer 1 x Red Sun's Zenith 4 x Shrine of Burning Rage 18 x Mountain 4 x Copperline Gorge - 3 x Ancient Grudge 2 x Arc Trail 2 x Dismember 3 x Galvanic Blast 1 x Incinerate 1 x Koth of the Hammer 2 x Rootbound Crag Before you go saying "ROLF NEEDS MORE STORMKIRKS NOOB!11" I'm working on it. And if that was your first thought when you saw my list, kill yourself. Price needs to drop to something reasonable first, I need to find suckers with them, or you can sell me two of them at the price at which you pre-ordered them. Any of those scenarios work for me. Why Copperline Gorge? Because it comes in untapped early on, I'm not gonna have my turn 1 play disrupted by the statistically unlikely occurence of drawing 2-3 nonbasics in my opening hand with no basics (highly unlikely, but such things happen). Can anyone tell me why the pros go with Rootbound over Copperline? By the time I'm replaying Grudge, the land will be untapped. Why Waif? 'Cuz fuxxorz u, that's why. Geistflame because I have no Gut Shot.

Stomkirk is a little overated imo, only an idiot would let him get past a 3/3 and even then thats turn 4, as if the opponent doesn't have Incinerate, Oblivion Ring and/or Day of Judgement and Go for the Throat/Doom Blade the only reason id run a play set of them was if i was runing Volt Charge as well. Charge for the Shrine, Stormblood Berserker, Koth and Stromkirk = Good Synergy. My opinion on Rootbound Crag/Rootbound Gorge. A turn 2 and onwards Rootbound Crag is a good play and when would you keep a hand with no mountains? And a Turn 4 and onwards Copperline is not good. That's how I look at it.
As for Waif, and the rest, I reckon it's totally up to you and your meta.. This is what I'm looking at so far, I'm just trying to find a way to tweek in Combust
Main Deck:3 Chandra's Phoenix 2 Goblin Arsonist 2 Grim Lavamancer 2 Hero of Oxid Ridge 1 Spikeshot Elder 4 Stormblood Berserker 4 Furnace Scamp 3 Koth of the Hammer 3 Arc Trail 4 Brimstone Volley 2 Incinerate 1 Volt Charge 2 Naturalize 4 Shrine of Burning Rage 16 Mountain 2 Kessig Wolf Run 4 Rootbound Crag 1 Copperline Gorge Sideboard:1 Red Sun Zenith / Devil's Play 1 Hero of Oxid Ridge 1 Naturalize 1 Arc Trail 2 Mountain 2 Perilous Myr 1 Sword of War and Peace 2 Traitorous Blood 4 Vulshok Refugee Probably side out the Naturalize/Arc Trail for two Combust.. helps with Stonehorn Dignitary I think 2 Mountains to side out copperline and a Kessig

Has anyone considered Geistflame as opposed to arc trail? After all it puts 2 counters on your Shrine of Burning Rage and brings back Chandra's Phoenix twice for only one card, and it plays at instant speed.

What do you think of some Perilous Myr in the side? Obviously Vulshock helps in the mirror but how do you fight against a Vulshock? Perilous Myr maybe a good thing in the side for the mirror also.
Garruk Relentless tokens are pretty good against Vulshok if you're splashing green, though of course he'll most likely eat burn in the red mirror after making one token.

Geistflame pay five mana to do two damage, seems soft, I think I like the idea of playing a Gutshot over Geistflame, and Devil's Play if I need graveyard work, If your deck is to slow that you've run out of cards to cast a red spell to play return Chandra's Phoenix, i'd think about Tezzeret's Gambit, and if I'd run Volt Charge to put two counters on my Shrine.. I think there are so many better things to do with 4 mana, especially in a RED DECK, where you could be casting Koth of the Hammer, or Hero of Oxid Ridge and Arc Trail is way to good at getting rid of many chump blockers especially from Timely Reinforcements.. The amount of White Hate Decks that are about I'm thinking of sideboarding some Apostle's Blessing to make Stromkirk's and any other card unblockable...
