@onlainari I think you did a great job with your list of "Staples." I wouldn't worry about all these people getting their panties in a bunch just because your idea of staple cards doesn't fit their operational definition of what staple cards are. For obvious reasons, as stated before, their will never be a comprehensive list of what the staples list should look like. To all of you that are unsatisfied with this list, dont be rude and blame onlainari because your favorite cards didnt appear on the list; instead, be constructive and say something like " Hey great list, i play a {Merike Ri Barit} commander, and i think the following cards are great for esper creature control...." Please stop the madness. If you guys have great ideas for threads, make them. I would love to read what you guys have to say, but all this pointless arguing is putting a damper on the thread.

I guess I haven't missed much around here. Havent really found the wizards site useful in forever. Staples list or whatever doesnt help me much, but maybe its because I have evolved past the need for outside help in my EDH deck building. Probably still good for newer players to have a list of good stuff to reference, but its rather unnecessary for those of us who have played EDH for years. We all know Krosan Grip  is the go to disenchant for green. We all know Demonic Tutor  is good in every deck. What I am trying to say in a round about way is that while we know what cards are good in our decks/playgroups, its a waste of time to argue about it with other people who play with different groups, decks and in some cases rules than you do. I know Chanceller of the Spires is good enough to go into every blue deck I have, but I am not gonna throw a fit if it isnt on the Staple list. I used to complain about card x (Crucible I believe it was) and fight for it until it made the list, but now I wonder why I even cared to waste so much time and effort. PS: Trinket Mage is still not a staple without Sol Ring, Divining Top, etc.... to go fetch :p

I don't buy onlainari in disguise. The voice is radically different.
But I do think its a profile created for the express purpose of supporting him.
Which gives me an idea for a game. We all create new accounts, quote someone we support and then try to guess who is who... all in another thread of course.

Okay, so I know no cards get put up until a little while after the release of a set. However, I'm going to put my two cents on a card here. The following is a Dark Ascension SPOILER Spoiler:

Havengul Lich  . This card is a staple. It is ridiculous. It would be really good if it said "your" graveyard, but no, any graveyard. This is absolutely insane in EDH. The ability to cast ANY creature in ANY graveyard for 1+their cost is utterly insane. Actually better as the number of colours you are playing increases. If you are in a game with someone sharing colours then a massive improvement. For 5 mana he isn't too expensive either. This is the best creature recursion I know of that doesn't let opponents get stuff back as well. If you get flash somehow....( Leyline of Anticipation  , looking at you) then you can disrupt the opponents graveyard shenanigans as well. Not only that but it doesn't have a pitiful body either.
