old rules Show

(okay maybe not)

Welcome fellow card designers from all across the globe, I welcome you to my humble contest. Here you will be tested to your creativities end. You will endure hardship, loss, and perhaps even victory. Few shall rise to the top, and the winner shall be known as the "Top Card Designer of YMtC" by all who care enough to remember him/her.

Round one will last until 6:00 PM Saturday, EST, on the 17th.

Create a common, blue creature that has a converted mana cost of 4, a landfall ability, and has the sum of power and toughness equal to 3.

-----

**New Rules**

While this contest was once run entirely by me, it has since changed to allow different designers to create new criteria.

Each round has two parts, the first part is a period for entering cards. This period is normally two to three days long, in this time anyone may enter a card into the round except for the person who won the previous round. This is to avoid chronic consecutive victories by one member and promote new designers to take on the new criteria with gusto and possibly create the next criteria themselves.

After this period is over, we then move onto the second part. The second part is voting. When you vote you are voting for the card you like the best. You may think it has a superior design or may believe that its flavor is a virtual masterpiece, how you come to think a card is the best is up to you. Anyone may vote during this part, even the person who made the criteria and people who didn't enter a card. We actively encourage any and all members to participate in inside this contest. The voting period is normally two to four days long.

The person who receives the most votes wins that particular round and makes the new criteria. In case of a tie, whoever posts first gets priority. If a person does not make a criteria within five or so days then it passes on to the next in line. Ocassionally a member may suggest a criteria and it will be posted. We are a friendly bunch, and normally the winner will go along with the suggestion unless they have something else in mind that they really want to try.

These rules are constantly changing and evolving with time and I reserve the right to change them as the contest runner.

Be sure to join A Contest Like No Other! It is currently the longest lasting continuous contest in the YMtC forum. New designers are always welcome and can join in at any time.

Every week after I play draft I'll record my Draft Decks and the results. With a new deck every Friday or Saturday it is a wealth of interesting new decks. Feel free to drop by at any time to give suggestions or critiques!

Ragnarokio are you saying the converted mana cost has to be exactly the same...or not? That really limits you.

Funny story:
InQuest Magazine (I think it was InQuest) had an oversized Chaos Orb which I totally rooked someone into allowing into a (non-sanctioned) game.
I had a proxy card that was a Mountain with "Chaos Orb" written on it. When I played it, my opponent cried foul:

Him: "WTF? a Proxy? no-one said anything about Proxies. Do you even own an actual Chaos Orb?"
Me: "Yes, but I thought it would be better to use a Proxy."
Him: "No way. If you're going to put a Chaos Orb in your deck you have to use your actual Chaos Orb."
Me: "*Sigh*. Okay."

I pulled out this huge Chaos Orb and placed it on the table. He tried to cry foul again but everyone else said he insisted I use my actual Chaos Orb and that was my actual Chaos Orb. I used it, flipped it and wiped most of his board.

Unsurprisingly, that only worked once and only because everyone present thought it was hilarious.

Hi guys!  So, I'm a sort of returning player to Magic.  I say sort of because as a child I had two main TCG's I liked.  Yu-Gi-Oh, and Pokemon.  Some of my friends branched off in to Magic, and I bought two pre-made decks just to kind of fit in.  Like I said, Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon were what I really knew how to play.  I have a extensive knowledge of deck building in those two TCG's.  However, as far as Magic is concerned, I only ever used those two pre made decks.  I know how the game is played, and I know general things, but now I want to get in the game for real.  I want to begin playing it as a regular.  My question is, are all cards ever released from the time of the inception of this game until present day fair game in a deck?  Or are there special rules?  Are some cards forbidden or restricted?  Thanks guys, and I will gladly accept ANY help lol.

That's what RPJesus tends to do. That's why I don't think he's a real person, but some Magic Card Archive Server sort of machine, that is programmed to react to other posters' comments with obscure cards that do in fact exist, but somehow missed by even the most experienced Magic players.

And then come up with strange combos with said cards. All of that is impossible for a normal human to do given the amount of time he does it and how often he does it.

He/It got me with Light of Sanction , which prompted me to go to RQ&A to try and find if it was even possible to do combat damage to a creature I control (in light that Mark of Asylum exists).

Thanks!  It's the first time I've posted one of these on here, and I was going for something that both fit the conditions and somewhat fit the theme of Zendikar (since it's tied so closely to Landfall.)  Glad to see that by at least one person's opinion, I didn't completely screw it up.

Now that Saturday has come we have 5 contestants. Since I'm a novice at this, the members shall vote for who they consider made the "best" card. Anyone may vote, however if you feel like you don't know what you're doing, don't vote. The first three people will get a point, the first of the three will get 2 additional points. Let the voting commence.
