He's very meh and not good enough to add red alone. So the real reasons must be below.

He's better than Viscera Dragger. He's better than Ashenmoor Gouger, who could still see play here. He's better than a LOT of the 3-drops black has.

I had a hard time finding space for #4, and was too lazy. Again, the list isn't streamlined. If you want 4, makes space.

Even Blightning doesn't use Blightning. The card is garbage. And as for Terminate, lets not and say we didn't.

Blightning doesn't use Blightning because to Blightning, Blightning is just 3 to the dome. We would use Blightning because it's good with Thoughtseize, good with the Rats if you decide to keep them, and is great with Nyxathid if you ever bothered to test the two together. It improves this deck's Faerie mathc-up, which DOES suck no matter what you try and say.

And you wrote off Terminate is if it weren't even there.

Yep, its easy to fix, but why bother? Lets turn anathemancer off.

If you're afraid of losing to Anathemancer, and that's your reason to run mono-black, then that's your perrogative. 4 borderpost/terramophic, 4 cairns would porbably suffice if you're worried about it.

So the real power from adding red is in the sideboard? Nah, its not good enough, sorry.

Again, it hasn't been streamlined. But even as it is, I look at the two decks, and the mono-black version is just... blah.

You wrote Anathemancer off too, as if it means nothing. This deck would have an attrocious match-up against B/W tokens if they ever met. Here's at least a little bit of salvation against them.

No, its not. There's no broken wins, and blightning is bad bad bad. And adding red you didn't even add an answer for the bane of our existence, CC.

It's the same thing with a more solid creature base. Blightning being "bad bad bad" is a pretty useless statement. And you claim that because RDW didn't run Blightning, that no deck should? Are the even the same decks? Is this list I'm proposing a R/B aggro variant? Not even close. Seriously.

And if you NEED an answer to CC, choose one.

Just a proposed list. I'm guessing the meta won't change much from now until M10 hits... but when I said our most problematic positions were the 2 and 4 drops... I decided to look at a new take. Obviously we're going to use Black Knight in aggressive mono black deck. He's the nuts. And I decided tossing the loxodons to stay pure mono-b would I suppose make the vampire worth trying. I'm 100% sure he's garbage, however. Dragger can manipulate the topdeck a little to ensure he's a 5/4 flyer and not a 3/3 lamer.... when its appropriate.

So this'll have a decent game against pretty much everything. I don't make uncompetitive mono black decks.

Despite what TheBanshee says, Stillmoon is bad in this deck. His CC fights with more aggressive 3 drops like Gouger or even Urchins. And if you're pumping him you're not playing out your curve. As a sideboard card, he hates on a great deal of stuff though, so he's fine there.

Black Knight as a 2 drop has 2 very relevant abilities... and we've literally got nothing useful at 2cc in mono black. He's a fantastic response to KoM or KotWO... or K-Finks.... or Outlander, or Stigma Lasher, or Hellspark, or Tidehollow Sculler, or RWM, or Doran, or well... you get the idea. Looking at that list he's actually better than I thought... I forgot how he gives RWM and Doran the finger. EDIT: And he ignores Plumeveil, Wall of Reverence, and Wall of Denial.

His use as a fire and forget card is great, letting us spend mana on Gougers and even that vampire... into Demigod blowouts. I think he'll be great.

My current build. I call it the Grease Monkey lol. It just flows so well and you have all the tools you need.

Try this out. I know at first glance the creature selection will make you second guess yourself, but give it a try. I've been testing out mono black for months now and I must say this really satisfies me and I'll be comfortable taking this to my FNM this Friday. I will post in this thread on how well I did.
