What is TurboFog?
Show
Turbofog is a combo-control mill deck based on the card Fog , which would repeatedly be recurred to stop opponents from doing combat damage. The "turbo" of the deck refers to the symmetrical draw cards, which would both mill your opponent by making them draw and help you draw into more "fog". The fog effects and the massive draw achieved would force your opponent to overextend, setting up for a timely Wrath of God or Damnation . Other prison elements, like masks( Imperial Mask ) and lifegain( Martyr of Sands and Beacon of Immortality ) help further establish position.
Why should I play TurboFog?
Show
You shouldn't. You thought people were mad about Martyr of Sands decks gaining life into the 100s. How about stopping every attack they do? You ever see a bunch of angry nerd gangs? It's not cool. They'll attack you with their duct tape hammers and cast their magic missiles at you. If you're lucky, you'll get a 16-20 and be able to dodge their attacks.
"ATTACK ME! I DARE YOU! LOLZ!!!!!" :p
Jokes aside, TurboFog is an awesome metagame deck you can take against a heavy aggro metagame. It still has a chance against counter-based control, but it'll take more skill. For the most part, once the engine gets going, aggro becomes autopilotable. It might be a boring deck to play, but the entertainment comes from the dramatic magic players reacting to the deck.
How do I build a TurboFog deck?
Show
The basic idea is to have about 10-12 fogs, with 8 turbos, and some board clearers.

Card Recommendations: The Fog
Show
- Darkness
- Your basic black Fog .
- Holy Day
- Your basic white Fog .
- Dawn Charm
- Fogs as well as prevents spells that targets you. Good for targeted discard like Nightmare Void or Persecute .
- Sudden Spoiling
- Not a fog in the traditional sense since creatures with +1/+1 counters will still do damage, but it's got split second which will save you a few times.
- Angel's Grace
- Definitely a versatile card. Cast it to keep yourself from losing by decking yourself or taking fatal damage. However, unlike traditional Fog this will put you at 1, so it's a big risk. You could also lose via life loss.
- Chameleon Blur
- It's good in that it prevents damage from creatures to players, however, the only advantage it has over Ethereal Haze is that it still lets damage pass to creatures. It's really expensive and you don't want be getting it while you're setting up. I'd put in at most 2.
- Intervention Pact
- Intervention Pact is good for bluffing out spells early. Just note that it ties up your mana next upkeep.
- Luminesce
This fog only works against red/black, but it stops both combat, other creature damage( Bogardan Hellkite for example), and red/black burn. Definitely a SB if you can afford it and you run into a lot of red/black.
Awesome Lorwyn Cards!
Show
- Primal Command
- I've been playing this as a two-of, and it's versatility is awesome. I run Purity as a one-of to tutor out. It's also nice to gain 7 life and then fetch out a Martyr of Sands . The least likely to be used option is the "return target noncreature permanent to the top of the player's library", but it can be good to nullify an opposing planeswalker.
- Oblivion Ring
- Good MD enchantment/artifact hoser, as well as being an answer to Planeswalkers. Also can be used to nullify creatures in a pinch.
- Pollen Lullaby
- Good fog effect for the clash and scry 1.
- Hoofprints of the Stag
- Some people like it, some people don't. Logically it fits since you're drawing so many cards, but by then you should be in the position to win. Also, to get it out early where it'd be most effective, you'd have to put 4.
- Eyes of the Wisent
- I used to think this might be good, but it gets bounced pretty easily. Still, it's worth a try.
Top Problem Cards
Show
- Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir
- Teferi makes it so you can't cast instants, ie your fog. In the gw version, I strongly recommend using snow for Mouth of Ronom and Into the North to destroy him. Black has Sudden Death .
- Molten Disaster
- If this didn't have split second, it wouldn't be too much of a problem. However, there is no way to react to it with Angel's Grace and it goes through Ivory Mask and Circle of Protection: Red . Life gain is the answer here.
- Extirpate
-This card can be both good and bad; good if you're not too reliant on recurring Fogs so that it thins your deck, bad if you are. Fortunately Chronomantic Escape never goes to the graveyard, so that's one fog they'll probably never hit. Also, if you run at least 12 fog, that's a 1 in 5 chance of drawing one fog card. So long as you have enough turbo, you should be fine.
- Stuffy Doll
- It's a nontargeted, indestructible artifact source of damage. All decks could run Serrated Arrows if this card is a problem.
- Reminisce
/ Feldon's Cane - These cards are definitely a problem, considering that both libraries will be decreasing symmetrically; this acts as a "reset button" for the opponent. Counter these with Tormod's Crypt , Leyline of the Void , or discard.

it's times like these that I wish we had Spore Frog (then the title could be called TurboFrog!) Not sure if these would help but: Blazing Archon - bit expensive though =/ Magus of the Moat - Would probably get burned anyways. Oh well, can't say I didn't try =D (was gunna add Chronomantic Escape but you apparantly already have it lol) So have you tested this deck out? I'm interested to see how it does.

looks pretty annoying, so i might have to test it out.
The only thing that makes me wary of the deck is that there isn't really an actual "win-con", but i will still probably try it out. Otherwise, i love the idea.

Hmm, against an Ignite Memories deck it would probably lose. Wait, nvmd, as long as you have an Ivory Mask out your good.
