I didn't know about this until I picked up the latest issue of Scrye; apparently, the problems with the Yu-Gi-Oh tournament stem from the fact that Konami, originator of Yu-Gi-Oh, is seeking to terminate its licensing of the game to Upper Deck, and handle it directly themselves now in the North American and European markets, but Upper Deck has argued in the courts that this would be in breach of the contractual agreements between the two. This will naturally be a difficult time for that game's players in the affected territories.

Also, I think many MTG players underestimate a good YGO players ability. We have this stereo type that they are all dumb and they all cheat, but the fact is most of the players who qualified for Nats could probably smash the majority of MTG players after only playing for a month or so.
I know lots of YGO players played YGO over MTG just because the field is so much easier to play against. LOL!! I played yu gi oh before playing magic. First no one is saying they're dumb or that they all cheat. 2nd saying that they could smash the majority of magic players after only playing for a month is pretty laughable. It doesn't take much to qualify for nationals in yu gi oh and its always been a waste of time because of the prize payout.
Don't be too smart to have fun

I played Yu-gi-oh, and still do (to win magic cards out of the prize :D), and I've gotten 1st in every torny ever since June. My point is, Magic made me so much better at card games, it's amazing. I watch these Yugi players and they make weird moves and I remember playing those moves till I started with magic. Yu-Gi-Oh is Vintage Magic (imo). The game is so broken, my deck can win on turn 2 =/
Back on topic: Great move my WotC. I'm sure they will get a great number of people after this whole mess with the damn yugi game.
