Survivors of Kamigawa. You will devise four 60 card preconstructed decks. Those decks must be original cards designed by you or basic lands.
Each illegal reprint will cost you 1 point off of your card average.Completely nonfunctional cards will be amended for playtesting, but after card grading.Your
Survivors of Kamigawa precons.
The challenge is to create four
Survivors of Kamigawa theme decks.
Individual card quality is as important as the overall deck synergy, so don't neglect either one. I will begin to grade the submissions in
June (possibly earlier for volunteers), so take your time. Grading will take a while, because I will proxy up your submissions and playtest them against each other and some of my decks.
Survivors of Kamigawa- summary
The newly mended world Kamigawa is in for some growing pains. The devastation left behind by the Kami War has made life tough all over. The old powers realign as the Survivors of Kamigawa struggle to stay alive. Rogue kami and oni still roam and prey upon the material world.
Spiritcraft, Arcane, Samurai, Ninja, Epic, etc are all fair game.
It is up to you whether you choose to add any mechanics.
If you do add mechanics, make sure you provide a good explanation how it works.
For each theme deck, you are required to include...
1. A Theme deck description
2. A Theme deck manacurve
3. The individual cards
Your decks should...
Have 2 Rare / 13 Uncommon / X commons / Y basic lands = 60 cards
Feature many synergies and many mechanics.
It should not be Spike's Pro Tour World Beater.
Have few "4 of's" to increase variety and sampling of themes.
Cover all colors, so at least one will be multicolor.
Grading will look something like this...

Pyrohydrometrics
Guildwar Theme Deck
Red and blue has been a popular color combination for control since the dawn of magic. Pyrohydrometrics is here to push the plasmodermic envelope.
Insurrection returned to a Ravnica in upheaval and with the release of Guildwar, The Izzet make their dynamic return featuring their new Meld mechanic and the return of the popular Replicate mechanic. If you are looking for a deck that can leave your opponent guessing and scratching their scorched head, then Pyrohydrometrics is for you.
In the early game, you should attempt to play out your Izzet Apprentices, Goblin Assistants, and Plasmodermic Pets for emergency defense and utility. Temporal Warp and Steamjet help keep your opponent in doubt and creatures from getting too close.
When your opponent’s strategy begins to take shape, disrupt those plans with
Fandangle, Gone Awry, or Catastrophic Error. It can’t hurt you if it never
happens, it simply misses, or blows up in their face.
Mid-game is the time to lay out your real threats. Spire Drake and Firemindlings supply reliable beat down. Keep your opponent’s threats under control with Vedalken Mindmage, Swiftwing Sparkmage, and Mez-Fizzel, Half-Dragon. Izzet Gizmometer enables any of your troops to join in the board control fun- just remember to add those charge counters!
Late game a timely Cerebral Influx can reload your hand for a renewed assault or added control. Plasma Spray and Plasma Surge offer bigger and often more permanent forms of removal. Steamform can allow your creature to deal the last few damage unopposed.
The wildcard here is obviously Pyrohydrometry. With a little luck it can refill your hand or clear key threats. With a lot of luck it will do both.
With even more luck you really didn’t need the cards it cost you.
So buckle up your brain and put on your oven mitts. The Izzet are back and Pyrohydrometrics can serve up some wild rides.
